Intrusive thoughts...

Hi,

I posted a question earlier this week about a friend of mine who whas having odd thoughts/concerns about abusing kids.(INtrusive thoughts vs. delusions)I found out a day or so ago that this friend is also hurting herself.(Superficial cuts, bruising herself...nothing really serious but I'm afraid she might start hurting herslef even worse...)What is going on in her head! She talks about this 'badness' inside her and it scares her.She is not suicidal but I'm really worried about her. Lately she has withdrawn and seems to just want to be by herself and watch TV.... I guess that she's probably getting pretty depressed abut all this. Although she had expressed feelings of emptiness and beingscared of herself before it has gotten much worse in the past couple of months. How can I help her? She is a close friend and it is really hard to see her suffer so much and be so self-destructive.

Your friend may be suffering from Major Depression.

I am very much concerned of her self-mutilating behavior. As much that you want to understand her right now, I would advise that you accompany her to see a psychiatrist for her to be properly diagnosed and treated. Sometimes, the self-mutilating behavior may become destructive as individuals "accidentally" kill themselves.

Encourage her to see a mental helath professional. If you are a good friend, you may want to accompany her. If things turn for the worse and you are unable to convince her, you can call 911 and ask for assistance, so she can be brought to the nearest emergency room for an evaluation.

Medications and therapy will benefit your friend.

I  have a neighbor who complains of intrusive thoughts too. she's kinda scared that she might hurt or end up getting really violent with others. its so bad that she can't even sleep at night and has to take sleeping pills. she has Hyperthyroid and could it be due to that? with her case though, she does'nt want to be alone but wants to be with others, party, and drink and all to make her get rid of thoughts. she's still nervous though and gets really anxious and is embarassed to see a psychiatrist. what should she do?? what's causing those fears??
