Amazing long-term memory experiences

by daeus, Jul 18, 2007 12:00AM
I have found during the time I am awake whatever I am doing at the time I sometimes get memories of things I have done long times in the past, from months but mostly years back.

They are usually from a happy time but can be anything I think.

They are so vivid I can remember things like what I was eating at the time, the people I was with and even sometimes what was said/done by each person or by myself.

These memories even go back to primary school! I'm 22, so 10+ years ago.

I don’t know if this is normal, I know you are supposed to remember happy times in your life but is this much detail normal?

I used to smoke cannabis quite allot between 16-21 and I find my short term memory is pretty bad but my long term memories seem to be better than usual!

I was merely interested if this was normal, I know about the whole photographic memory "anomaly" I seem to have video-graphic memory, albeit from further back in the past!

Any info would be kool,

Thanks!

There is not much more to be said except to enjoy this natural phenomenon.  The only thing you have to be concerned about is any abrupt change or estrangement kind of experience.  If that happens, you should be checked by a neurologist.  this may be related to smoking cannabis, but it would be hard to prove.
