what kind of doctor for these symptoms?

hello there!  i am just going to give you a run-down of my symptoms and would love to know what kind of doctor to see.  neurologist, neuropsychologist, etc.

1.  cannot follow through with ideas/thoughts.  i have the same daily to-do list as in college.  that was 10 years ago!

2.  overwhelmed by lots of information.  makes me shut-down.

3.  feel detached from the world.

4.  do not absorb details.

5.  when people speak, it is as if it is foreign language.

6.  what i think is not always what i say or write.

7.  hard to make decisions.

8.  foggy brain.  nothing penetrates.

9.  cannot find right words.  end up describing.

10.  kind of stutter when talk.

ok, i am a mess.  just want to figure out what to do.

i did read that it could be sinuses?  my right side has been stuffed up for since when i can remember.

who knows.  just tired of it.

thank you for your help!

Kathy,
Testing can be a problem, as the ELISA for Lyme Disease is so inaccurate that you may as well flip a coin.
The Western Blot IgG and IgM are better, if performed by a lab that specializes in tick borne infection.
The AMA has advised physicians not to do the Western Blots tests for Lyme unless the ELISA is positive.  However, there is a back story to this. From what I've read, the committee that made this recommendation had several members who owned part of the company that either made the ELISA or held the patents.  So they would profit financially whenever laboratories used their test kits.

I had many of the cognitive dysfunction symptoms that you list, and it was an article like the ones I posted that convinced me to get more information about Lyme.  I also had some physical symptoms.
The Canadian Lyme Foundation has a good list.

You need to do some reading before you ask your doctor to be tested.
You can post a query on the medical questions forum at LymeNet.org, which has a flash discussion group who are very helpful to newbies.

They can help you find a Lyme literate M.D.
Wishing you the best,
Carol

thank you carol!  i definitely have most of these problems.  i did look up other symptoms and it seems that i don't have any of the body problems.

it is definitely a great place to start!  that would be great if all i had to do was take antibiotics.

what type of doctor would one go to to get tested for this?

Read these articles, and see if they correspond to your cognitive problems.
