Endometrial stripe 5mm after ablation

by Suett, Mar 01, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,

I have posted before regarding a dermoid and a 1.4 cm thickened endometrial stripe. I am 51 and in perimenapause. I recently had a Endometrial Ablation, polymenctomy and a D& C to slow menstral bleeding.

Post surgery 11 weeks I now have an endometrial stripe of 5mm. Should''nt it be almost zero since the lining was burned out. My ovaries only show only small cysts now.

What would a normal endomentrail stripe be after a couple months of a sucessfull ablation.

Thank you,
Sue T

Hi Sue,
that is an interesting question. I do not really know. It is possible that at 11 weeks post surgery, you are just seeing some edema in the area of ablation. I will ask around and get back to you if other folks here have more experience with this.

My questions to you is: what was the final pathology on your D&C (dilation and curretage)? Whay was another ultrasound obtained so soon? Were you having more symptoms?
best wishes

Hi Doctor,

The reason I had another Ultra sound is because we were following  a possible dermoid which turned out to be small 2cm cyst just prior to the Ablation and then the doctor wanted to follow up again 2 months. The ovaries are normal now.

All the biopsies of the uterine lining from the D&C and polyp were all normal prio to surgery and then from the surgery itself.

One doctor told me that 5MM was within normal limits, but I thought 1 or 2 mm would be more realistic.

I can't find any info on the thickness of the endormetrial stripe after ablation either. Would really like to find out.

Thank you very much.
