Concerned about right ovary

by heart2heart, Jun 17, 2007 12:00AM
Its a long story...I'm 55 yo. All my life since age 14 I've had irregular menses. At age 18 a dr. suspected PCOS and another doc confirmed it at age 30. Since age 24 I've had intermittant right sided pelvic pain. 99% of the time I ovulate on that side (if and when I ovulate - I am still not in meno!) Sometimes the pain starts from ovulation and lasts till menses - 2 weeks. Also hx of severe menstrual pain and ovarian pain with my period. Last week I had something new...following a difficult bowel movement (constipation) I had the right sided ovarian/pelvic pain that lasted about 1/2 hr - this was not associated with either a period or ovulation. Should I tell my dr. about this? What would cause this kind of pain?  I had a pelvic MRI done last year and it only showed some functional cysts on both ovaries. I am always afraid of ovarian cancer, do you think I am at risk because of my long history of pelvic pain and PCOS?

hi there
You should tell your doctor about your pain. You should also ask about getting a pelvic ultrasound to check your ovaries.
best wishes
