BIOPSY/ LAB REPORT RESULTS

by sparky911, Jul 06, 2007 12:00AM
I'm 49 with consistent bloating and exhaustion. My period stopped for 8 months so thought I was going through menopause but had 2 ongoing heavy cycles. DUB had me in ER for a day of monitoring, bloodwork taken and suggested that I may be going through menopause. Went to gyno two days later, had bloodwork, biopsy and transab and transvag ultrasounds. Results showed endometrium abnormal with tiny cystic spaces and hetereogeneous tissue. Right ovary (2.7 x1.4 x 2.0)has a simple cyst(1.3 x 1.2 x 1.7). Left ovary is abnormal (3.8 x 3.8 x 3.7) and comprised predominantly of a complicated cyst. Within largest cyst(3.5cm)is a smaller cyst of 2cm, noted that perhaps cystic ovarium neoplasm. No soft tissue component identified; flow present but no suspicious flow profiles on Doppler. Also, at the uterine fundus, more cysts are present. Simple hyperplasia without atypia was tissue pathology diagnosis. I was called in again for more bloodwork (FSH, TSH, CBC) and completed it this week. My next appt is in 3 weeks but worried as I still have consistent bloating, (even if I eat a small amount) pressure and back pain that doesn't go away.  I've lived with the back pain for a year(inconclusive cause) and had 3 epidurals last year to manage pain but it is still here. Reading OC symptoms has me now worried as I have one 8 year old child. Can you please advise specific questions to ask my doc to jump start a diagnosis or give me advice of possible next steps of action?  Many thanks.

Hi There,
You have had a very good evalaution. this is what has been uncovered:
-you have cysts of your ovaries
-you have extra growth of the lining of your uterus which is called hyperplasia.

Here is the options that you should consider with your doctor at your next visit:

1) treatment of hyperplasia ranges from:
1- close observation and repeat biopsy in 3 to 6 months
2-to medical management with progesterone which is the anti-growth hormone and then repeating a biopsy in 3 months
3-  to removal of the uterus

2) treatment of ovarian cysts ranges from
1-close observation with a repeat ultrasound in 3 months to see if they have resolved (a common occurrence)
2 - to laparoscopy to look at the cysts and remove them
3- to fully removing the whole ovaries

if you are feeling unwell and worry that your symptoms are related to the ovarian cysts or the endometrial hyperplasia, it may be that surgical intervention with at least full D&C and laparoscopy or at most a full hysterectomy with the removal of your tubes and ovaries is worthy of consideration

best wishes

I am 32 year old female. I have Mild to Moderate dysplaisa, and cysts on my left overie 3.5cm. I my also have endometriosis. I started off having a little pain each month durning or just before my period. On July 2nd the pain on my right pelvic area got so bad I ended up in the ER. Then again on 4th of July and one more time on 6th of July. The ER doctor perscribed me birthcontrol pills. They said it would help me. And they were right. I was going to have a Cone biopsy done at the end of the month orderd by my Gynocologist. I had been telling her about the pain that seem to get worse each month and all she did was an ulrtasound the month before and pertty much blew it off cause all she found was the cysts . When I went to see her for my pre op before the surgery, I tried to talk to her about what had happed on 4th of July week and why I was on bithcontrol pills perscribe by an ER Doc.. Right when I said Endometriosis, she shut me up right then and there and said that was just a word being thrown around and I don't know if that is what it is with out doing test.. She would not let me finish what I was saying, I was going to show her the ER reports and test that were done but when she responded the way she did I decided it would be a waste of time.. It was like she did not care to hear any of it.. Then she looked at my record as if I had just walked in there and she had to remember why I was getting the cone biopsy she wanted done.. I saw her looking at her own work she had done to me and acted like it was part of the record from what was done by some one else in a diferent state I was in... I cancelled on everything the next day. I was soooooo mad that day.. Was I wrong for choseing to continue with a new Doctor. I mean would you have done the same thing or contiue with her.. I have medical bills that are starting to add up from what was left over from all the ER trips. Well I am fine now, my regular Doctor found out about my situation and is helping to take care of me now, untill my first appointment with my new Gynocologist. She did a CT scan and the cysts on the left side is 3.5cm.. I am getting another ultrasound done soon and she wants me tested for Tumor.. I finaly feel like some one is helping me and listing to me.
