repeat pap smears

by jm_d, Mar 07, 2003 12:00AM
Hi eveyone! i'm new to this site & i just have a couple questions. i had a pap smear done in sep. of last year. the results were inconclusive, so i had a repeat pap smear on feb. 17th of this year. the results showed no cells on the slide, so now i have to get a 3rd pap smear done in a week! should i be worried that the next pap smear will be abnormal or what? is this normal to have 2 pap smears in a row be inconclusive?

oh, i'm 19 yrs old.

THANX 4 any input!!! --Jean

The pap smear looks at cells collected when the doc scrapes or brushes the opening of the uterus, called the cervix.  Occasionally, depending on the method of collection, there aren't enough cells on the slide to make any kind of indentification.  So the test must be repeated.

It is just bad luck there weren't any cells collected.  I hope your next one goes well.
