Are Majority of Post Menopausal Cysts Malignant?

by HetyM, Apr 12, 2003 12:00AM
I am 56 years old and have been in good health with no cancer in my family.  I was HRT for approx 4 yrs until 1yr ago.  At the end of 2001, I started having lower pelvic pain and cramps. I went for my yrly exam and dr. secheduled CT and ultrasound.  Both were normal (2/02).  In Aug-03, I moved from east to west coast and started having more symptoms-bloating, constipation, nausea, extreme fatigue, gas, belching & wt gain even though I can only eat small amts of food. I am full after only a few bites.  My stomach gets ex distended.  New Dr. had me take barium enema, uppper and lower GI.  All normal except for slight divertulitis. I was told to go on a high fiber diet.  The constipation has improved but I still have bloating and gas and constant belching.  A few weeks ago I started having pain after intercourse.  I just had my yrly exam and Dr said she felt a cyst on my rt ovary and has scheduled an ultrasound.  This was a week ago.  Does the presence of a cyst after menopause along with these symptoms indicate cancer? Should I get an ultrasound on my own if I dont hear back from my Dr soon? (HMO) I wish I had insisted on a pelvic in Aug. when these symptoms started. I knew I didnt feel normal and what the symptoms of OC are but left it up to the dr to determine course of action.
