Should I be worried?

In Dec had severe pain in left pelvis, with green period like discharge for 6 days. Period early on day 22. Treated with antibiotics but pain continued for 3 weeks although diminished. Had urgent scan which showed mass on RIGHT ovary (despite pain on left) of about 7cm size. As symptoms stopped it was no longer urgent. Saw a gynae had bloods all normal, CA125 was 33 and was palpable. Have had a smear test now and am awaiting another scan with "a more specialised colleague". When period came this month (day 33) the pain woke me up, again on left hand side.  I am 40, have had 2 IVF cycles, resulting in 9yr old twins and have never used the pill. My mum has had pre-cancerous cells removed at about my age, a single mastectomy due to pre-cancerous cells and last year stage II breast cancer and lymph nodes on both sides are also now gone. Obviously I have another appointment (scan) in the next month or so, but was concerned that doctor didn't ask about my mum. Should I have told him straight out, or is it not relevent. Sorry to waffle!

Thanks for that. I think the system works differently over here! I don't know much more about the mass apart from the fact that we could see one ovary was twice the size of the other. The mass had fluid around it and nobody has named it. (It was only when the doctor rang that she said it was a mass.) I expect they are waiting to see if it shrinks by next scan. As the pain resumed with this period I am doubtful it has gone.

I will tell them about my mum. I am going to write and let them know incase the appt doesn't come for another 4 weeks.

Thanks for all the advice. It means alot to read about the way you all stick together and care so much. Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts.

Considering your mother's cancer history, you should advise your doctor.

It is quite common for the pain to be felt on the opposite side from the location of the mass.  The effect is called "referred pain."  I experienced that effect myself.

I do not understand exactly what is going on with your situation.  You experienced pain, a scan revealed a 7 cm mass, but as the "symptoms" diminished (presumably you mean the pain subsided) the mass was no longer considered urgent?  You will not have a follow-up for how long? How is this mass described?

thanks, I am and even took my notes with me but didn't ask anything! Forgot to add that the mass has fluid around it.

I would call the doctor to give him/her the information about your mom just in case, may be irrevelent. Don't wait for your next appointment. That is what they are there for.

Make sure you write down all the questions you want to ask your dr., even the silly ones.  Just have pad and paper nearby so that whenever you think of somethink, you write it down.  Don';t forget to bring your list of questions with you.  It helps!!
