Complex Ovarian Cyst

I have been recently diagnosed (2-8-06)with a right multicystic mass (4 areas) 7 X 3.4 x 3.5 complex cyst with thickened septations which demonstrate flow/debris within cyst/no nodules seen and I am scared! However, I came across this website and have found it to be more helpful then my doctor. What a blessing all your comments have been to me over the last few days. I knew nothing until I read here.  It has calmed me down and answered many questions.  I have no systoms and had a CT scan performed for another reason. Low and behold they find the complex cyst. Why do they call it a mass then a cyst on the report? What does demonstrate flow mean?
I am really scared due to the fact that I just completed a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery for breast ca, (enough is enough, I thought I was going to be back to normal soon). I have been told by my breast surgeon this has no relation to my ovaries since my breat ca was a stage zero, DCIS (noninvasive, all negative lymph nodes. I have been taking tamoxifin for the last 2 months and have not had a period since December.  I thought this was why I developed the cyst but have been told no relation. I have already scheduled a 2nd and 3rd opionion and an appointment with my oncologist. I have no clue as to what to expect. My gyn was talking about a hysterectomy already, doesn't seem right! I am 41 years old and feel lost.  It is wonderful that this group exists! Please comment  Thank you

Hello there and welcome.... I just noticed your post as I was reading down looking for an old post....yours might well have been buried down here, as these are a month old.  Why don't you copy and paste and start a new thread, up at the top? If you don't know what I mean, leave a comment and I will help you.

As for the cyst, don't freak out, (you might not be packing extra teeth and hair) we are here to help you, and I know you will get some answers. When is your surgery? How old are you?  Yes you can exercise, it'll do your mind good.

I'll watch for you to re-post soon.
Love and prayers, Katie

Hi ya, I'm new to the site but have just been diagnosed with a pretty large dermoid - diameter 7cm- on my ovary. Reading all your comments has been really inspiring especially as Im still a little freaked out by the fact my cyst's a mini me with hair and formed teeth.
I've been referred for surgery but in the meantime am a bit worried about scaring on my ovary and possible infertility. Has anyone had one and is it a straight forward procedure. And does anyone know if it's still safe to do exercise like going to the gym for a run in the meantime before the op  - doctors never tell you that sort of thing and i was too dazed to ask.

Any thoughts would be really helpful. This site and all you girls really are a comfort.

Take care,
Leah's sisx

Hello just thought you could help me answer a few questions...well i went to my doctor for stomach pain and she ordered and ultrasound where they than found a complex ovarian cyst that is a little over 3cm which the doctor told me was pretty big but not cancerous so she wants me to follow up with my gyn instead of my regular doctor well i spoke with the doctor i work for and she stated to me that they will probably want to do surgery and remove the cycst due to the fact that i have pain/symptoms am only 20 years old and take birth control pills that they normally will prescribe to try to get rid of the cyst so i schduled and app a week ago for my gyn but they didnt say really what the app was for or anything and im kinda left in the dark and theres not much info on the internet about complex cyst so any info would be greatly appreciated! thank you

My Ca-125 came back very normal.  Good news!  Had my second opinion and he indicated that I should have a lapscopy and go from there.  He doesn't think it will go away on its own due to me not having cycles (tamoxifin).  He wasn't too alarmed and felt that no free fluid was a good sign.  TAH he felt was too extreme and he felt confident in removing the overary if necessary.  I have a few more appointments and then I will make my decision for when surgery will be scheduled.  I felt very comfortable with this physician, he took his time and explained everything.  Vixen, what happened with your appointment????

Thanks again for everyone's support!

Felt like a kick in the stomach when I read your post: I really don't know what to say.
You sound like a strong woman; and, once again, you must be strong to fight this "monster".
I know I cannot fight your battle for you, but, I can certainly be a cheer-leader for you while you fight. Every woman here will stand by your side and offer whatever support you need. You are not alone in this battle.
Please keep us posted.
I wish you Peace.

Hello everyone.
I jusy found this forum and joined right up! I had been in remission for what would be three years this April. Just found out last week that the monster is back with a vengence. I had been living life like it had never happen but I did keep an eye on my health, my problem was my follow up dr. didn't act as soon as I ask him, about four months ago to do a ca125 and an ultrasound. He thought I only wanted pain pills! I didn't even ask for them! Now I have been so depressed that I can't stand myself and now in pain for sure, set for more surgery feb 27th and I don't even know what all is going to be done. There are masses in my adominal area and both breast. I still have my port from three years ago so I am wondering now if I end up with a tummy port too, really just wondering about all of it. Thanks for letting me vent. I really am thankful that I have had three years of health but, I am greedy, I wanted more......

Hi Linda and welcome to the forum!

So sorry to hear that your 'monster' appears to be rearing its ugly head again but I too think you sound like a very strong woman (even though you probably dont think so)  I would make a list of questions to take with you to the Doc/Gyn/Onc appointments because if you are anything like me you forget to ask the most important questions until you're back at home!
Make them tell you what's going on with you, what the surgery is for and what their plan is, you have every right to know every little detail because after all it's your body and health.

You will get lots of support on this site, its fantastic :-)

I will join with Mary, Tascha and all the others in thinking of you as you go through your tests and surgery, post when you can to keep us all updated, or even just to vent .... we all are here for the same reason, to give love and support to each other, keep smiling :-)

Hugs, Anne-Marie

Blessing that you would write back!  I saw your comments from awhile ago and I was looking to see what happened with you.  We will survive no matter what the outcome.  It appears that there are many women out there who have complex cysts and they are negative.  Please keep me posted.  I will be thinking of you!

I am the same age as you and have a 12.6 cm complex cyst. Tomorrow I see Gyn for pre-op and I guess I find out what the plan is then. I have been told probability is high for TAH and I guess I'll be signing consent to allow my GYN/ONC to take whatever he feels necessary once I'm opened up.  I am booked for surgery this Friday. I am in Australia and my GYN/ONC is travelling from Sydney to my closest city (an hour from my home) to operate.  I haven't actually met the man yet so I'm not sure what his thoughts are.  My GYN will probably be able to fill me in a little more tomorrow and I guess I'll be asking if TAH is absolutely necessary but at the end of the day, I feel confident enough to put my trust in the specialists looking after me.  They are the best in their field and this is definitely their specialty area, so I believe I am in the best possible hands! I've also found this site a Godsend for my sanity.  Good luck to you and all the other great girls on this site!  We will triumph!!
