Pain during Pelvic exam

by wbwmom, Nov 24, 2002 12:00AM
I've been experiencing more abdominal bloating than usual for the last several years.  During my last two annual pelvic exams, I have felt a very sharp pain on my right side when the doctor presses in one particular spot.  She said it was just because I needed to relax, but I'm 47 and have been having pelvics for years with no issues. I also have a fairly high pain tolerance.

It strikes me as very odd that I had no pain whatsoever on my left side, and have had the same acute pain in one spot on my right side on both exams.

I've had pelvic ultrasounds the last two years, but specifically to look at endometrial thickening and a polyp (ended up needing a D & C), so I don't know if they would be looking at anything else.

No family history of cancers, other than a grandmother who had pancreatic cancer in her 80's.  Haven't been on hormone therapy, or birth control pills.

Several years ago my periods started changing too - less regular, slightly shorter, and heavier with more clotting the first few days.  I also had quite a bit of hair thinning, for which I now use Rogaine.  My periods are somewhat more regular again, with a little less clotting since the D & C.

Should I be concerned about the pain in combination with excessive bloating?
