I'm sorry I don't have any answers except keep up the positive spirit. I can feel you are such a fighter and that definitely gives me greater hope.
Great instincts, to schedule with the other doc. It sounds as if your doc was very unsure of himself. Keep in mind too, if you are "young" as he says, a CA 125 is NOT reliable. Get an opinion from this next doc, and a referral for a good oncologist.Don't stop seeing doctors until you find one that you are comfortable with, who seems knowlegeable, and caring and MOST of all , who listens to you and MAKES SENSE to you. I went through 3 doc's all recommending hysterectomy because the other guy did. Then I found a fourth, and wound up not having surgery at all....Keep talking to the people here, taking notes asking questions. We are all here to help and pulling for you!
I agree, I would see an Oncologist. Why I say this if you had any other problems in the past , or if you may in the future, it is more reassuring having a specialist. I started seeing an Oncologist about 3 years ago with pre-cancer on the cervix. Well after that the insurance has no problem paying for him to do my annual paps etc. Then when I started with the horrible pain we started with an exam followed with two ultrasounds one was vaginal. Anyway we repeated those after three weeks because I had just had my period. I was just more comfortable knowing he is an expert and did the testing we needed. Also these procedures are not cheap. You probably need to discuss with your insurance whether or not they would cover a Dr. who is not qualified to perform the surgeries an Oncologist could in one surgery. (not meaning this in a demanding way, just have you thought of it) I hope everything turns out well for you. That is a little strange a Nurse requesting that and not the Dr. Have you been going to him for very long? I have read a book recently published about choosing the right Dr.'s and one thing says find out what Nurses think about the Dr.'s before you see them. I hope you get better and some answers. Maybe you could have one of those tests that did just malfunction. Crystal
Hi,l am so sorry to hear that you are having to go through all this. I wonder as does bluesgrlIN if you have had any type of pelvic surgeries? Adhesions from scaring can be a nasty thing.
I had a horrible time with surgical adhesions after my hysterectomy in 2000. They do not show up on MRI's (didn't in the "old" days...2001! maybe things have improved now as far as getting these to show up, I don't know). They suspected colon cancer....the pain was very bad and very frequent.
It was during a colonoscopy that the doctor discoverd the adhesions. They were colapsing my colon (thus causing Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I was lucky to get help through an exercise teacher. She had me do a 20 min. session of "Body Rolling" and after two sessions, I was able to break up the adhesions. I have to do this about four times a year to keep the adhesions at bay. I certainly know that this may not take your fear away...just thought I would mention my situation.
It took a lot out of me trying to figure out the cause of my pain and blockages...and, the doctors were baffled. So, again, if this has not been helpful, do know that I can relate to being so very frustrated (and, you know how great a site this is in that all of us do understand). You will be in our thoughts. Take care. Mary
He wanted to know what you wanted to do next? When did you finish your gyno residency? I'm glad you took good care of yourself and got the appointment with the other doctor. Also that you kept your cool and kept asking good questions while stunned voices were going through your head. What a strange experience.
I noticed he's headed straight for hysterectomy. Unless it's what you've requested, it may not be needed at all, especially in you're young and they are dermoidal. When you see the other doc, if it doesn't come up, you may want to ask about MRI or CT as a better way to identify a cyst (or several) as dermoid since the gross stuff shows up better than with US.
I will say that when my gyn did an exam on me when she'd gotten the worrisome report but not yet shared it with me, it took time, was very painful, and had me curling up on the table, and hurt for two days. It was one of the reasons I ran from her office to find someone else to do the surgery. As I got second opinions I had an endless supply of the same exam looking for the same thing by other doctors, and not one of them was uncomfortable per say (I was on a table with stirrups). That first doctor didn't even get any meaningful data from that exam!@ (Typed that @ by accident - but it applies.) What's even stranger is that she'd been my doctor and doing exams of no discomfort for a couple years. What I'm trying to say is that doctors can vary and so I'm sure this will get much better sorted out very soon.
I'm sure you'll be on pins and needles until then (I would be), but if blood can come out, then there's a way in and this will all make sense again soon.

Sorry to hear everything is going nuts. I've already got you added to my prayer list. 2nd opinions are great things. Hope it all works out for the best!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you going to see the associate instead? Or, have you thought of a gyn/onc(just to be on the safe side)? Agyn/onc could have frozen section done and know what to remove immediately if needed be. I hope there is no need but I would go the safe route.
I'm so sorry, I've never had this procedure done before. I really don't know what to say. I know your worried. I hope that God will wrap you in His arms and give you comfort!

I am sorry to hear that you are having to go through all of this. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hi "Cyst-ers" (my new name for all of us :) )
Thanks so much for the kind words. What a nutsy 24 hours it has been. I AM drinking a class of Cabernet - remember the "Miracle Story"?! My friend and I have decided that it is best when faced with mass confusion to drink. Sigh. I'm really not a big drinker at all, but tonight just kind of seems like the night. I'm putting this all in God's hands, and know that everything will be as it is supposed to be, good or bad. It's funny, but on the way home, I kept thinking about getting on here and posting. All of you are the most understanding women I could possibly have. Thanks for your care and concern. Remember that I am following all of you very closely and care about your results! It's so much easier to be objective and smart about other people's situations instead of our own. I have come to care about each and every one of you, I really have. Someday very soon all of us will have our answers, until then let's hang on to each other!
Robin
I'll have a glass with you and we will toast to a future of good health!

Well, shoot,Robin ! That sucks in a big way! You didn't need this added drama! I have never heard of this either but we gals will form a posse and go out hunting for any info we can come up with. I'm glad that nice nurse was looking out for you. Virtual group "that-a girl" for Nurse Friend!
Try to relax some this evening. Are you one of those on here that tips a glass of red every once in a while? Or a bubble bath? We are here for you. Cindi
I wish you the best of luck and hope you are feeling better. If you need any help we are all listening!!!!
Bethany :)
Robin, I am sorry to hear that you had such a horrible experience. I just had the hysterscopy done yesterday and I do not believe there were any problems with mine. I have not talked to doctor after procedure because I was knocked out. I hope you get better results and answers from the second opinion doctor. I hope all goes well for you. Hang in there and I will be praying for you.
I am glad that you got the appt with the other dr. Hopefully you will get some answers soon. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed
