How do I know how long I will live with metastatic granulosa cell tumor

by francaise, Aug 09, 2003 12:00AM
In 1977, went to see my family physician to get checked as my monthly cycle was starting to get irregular, and a different color with hardly any bleeding.  I was 32.  I wanted a historectomy. He examined me and gave me x-rays.  Said he thought he could see a shadow on my right ovary, but didn't say any more about it. I had a partial historectomy soon after.  Then in 1986, while at work, I bent over with my hand on my stomach and felt a huge mass.  I thought, I can't be pregnant. Went to family doctor, took x-rays. He sent me to gynocologist where this doctor performed ultrasound to show me the huge mass in my pelvic region. Said I needed surgery. I was alone with 4 children and working my butt off. The employer gave me time to have surgery and recooperate. Gynocologist said we will just watch and see.  Twelve years later, went for x-ray due to chronic coughing. Found tumor at aorta behind lung and two other small tumors on my kidney. Went to Dallas for chemo and radiation(max). Never felt so helpless in my whole life. Weakness, arthritic pain in pelvic joints and in middle of my back.  The anticipation is overwhelming. And, how will I take care of all my expenses if I can't work.  So far all is good, but I know it's a matter of time.  I am getting close to retirement age, but barely scraped by money wise. Is there financial assistance out there if I'm uninsured.  I am a high risk for my employer.
