Back from my follow-up U/S and 2nd doctors opinion

Hello dear cyst-ers,
I had my follow up ultrasound (took an hour!) and was then seen immediately by a doctor, an arrogant one, (my regular gyn is on vacation). The cysts on the right ovary have grown, although only slightly. The solid cyst is larger and the cyst next to it looks simple now as opposed to a complex. My left ovary, which had a teeny cyst in it, is now larger containing a complex cyst. Sigh. I really want to keep my left ovary! Probably the weirdest thing about my day was that the last time I had an U/S 6 weeks ago, they found 2 small fibroids and what they thought was a uterus divided by a canal. Today they are saying that the "canal" is actually a large fibroid or growth of some kind. She also said that my uterus is now filled with multiple fibroids covering the inside. I told the Dr. I was surprised that I went from having two tiny fibroids to being covered with them in just 6 weeks. I thought they were slow growing. He said they were probably there the whole time and the 1st tech just missed ALL of them. HUH?!?!? He also said the reason they couldn't perform the hysteroscopy is that there is probably scarring of the cervix from the ablation I had 3 years ago. He is recommending removal of the right ovary, cystectomy of the left ovary, and possibly hysterectomy. Told him that I had an appointment with an ONC/GYN on Wednesday for a 3rd opinion. He wanted to know who had made the appt, I said "I DID". Don't think he liked it, but it's my ovaries we're talking about here! I just need a good doc! Any ideas on the fibroids? Much gratitude to all of you, Robin

How normal is it for one to spot blood, or even have a tinge of blood as a result of a cyst?  I had a hysterectomy in '00; I still have my ovaries. I'm getting an ultersound Wednesday in the Dr. Office.  I've had trouble since my surgery in '00. I felt like I have a kidney infection, but when my doctor did the exam he touch my right ovary and the pain shot around my waist and up my back. After the exam, I bled quite a bit. The pain in my back is still there, as if I had a kidney infection.  Has anyone else had this experience?

Ok...I like how you're approaching this.  I've been told for years I have fibroids all over my uterus, this seems to "upset" any GYN I've had...I don't know why, they don't upset ME.  (no pain, no heavy bleeding for me)  Do you have painful periods?  I love that you're getting a third opinion.  I had a third ultrasound and it saved me from having any surgery.  My cyst had resolved (but before it did, it grew some in between the first and second ultrasound).  How big is your complex cyst?  How much did it grow?  Did you have a CA-125 (I'm sorry if you posted all this before, but I get so lost on here sometimes)?  Anyway, good for you for speaking your mind and being proactive.  I love it!  There are some GREAT doctors out there, why should we settle for half a$$ed care and aloofness?

Hello Robin, I am sorry you are going through so much hassle.
Wouldn't you just love to say someday "Did you know you come across as somewhat arrogant?" (If only our lives didn't depend on people such as him!!) I do believe that lots of cysts come and go on our ovaries. But that is so bizarre what they said about the tech missing the fibroids. They grow slowly.  Also, is it possible to have scarring that severe, of the cervix from ablation, so they couldn't do the procedure?  I have never heard of that.
If you want to hear a really weird fibroid story, try mine. For years my GP told me I had a large, hard uterus and that he could feel a fibroid or fibroids.  They even said they saw them in ultrasounds over the years. The gyne said the same. Had my uterus out last month.  Read the path report. No fibroid. I had a messed up ovary anyway, but I still think "How is that possible?" I see the surgeon for follow up on April 11 and I will be interested in hearing what he says. All the stuff you read on here just shows you that it sure is a good idea to get another opinion.  Best of luck to you
Love and prayers, Katie

Don't worry about Dr. Nose in the Air, the Battalion can deal with him.  Go get that 3rd opinion from the gyn/onc.  You will feel better knowing that you are dealing with a specialist.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

Hi Birdbath,

I think that its a good idea that you are going for a 3rd opinion on Wednesday. I'll be thinking of you. Goodluck from the Aussie Cyster. This morning I was thinking of you as a yellow Eastern Robyn landed for in the birdbath for a wash and quick dip!!!
be careful of those potholes!!!

Take care

Gee, take our own helath care into our own hands and actually make and appointment on our own!!!GASP and SHUDDER!! How dare we!

Way to go! Unfortunatley some of these docs that are such bleep bleeps are the goodones. Bedside mannner is lovely but I'd rather they know their stuff! Doesn't mean we have to go along like puppies, though! Bravo!  Cindi

Wow!!! And he's bothered that you want a third opinion?!?!
Does he think you're June Cleaver or what?
I used to get chronic yeast infections...really icky...I went from doc to doc until I got to mine who didn't treat me like I was some crazy yeast lady! Keep going till you find one you are comfortable with!
Hope it all goes well!

Thanks for all of the support, guess I'm definitely not the only one out here with doctor frustrations! Bananie - no, I didn't get the details of the cyst. The doctor said it grew a little, but I just figured I was getting a copy of the ultrasound report, so would look over all the little details later. Unfortunately when I went to check out, they would not give me my ultrasound report. AURRRGGHHH!! So, now I have to wait. The only good news is that I see the onc/gyn in the morning, so I'll get the details from him! (They faxed HIM the report today, even though they're MY ovaries!). Sometimes it just seems so messed up. Sigh. Robin

Hey Robin,

Well I don't know what to say about your appointment, it all sounds quite complex!  Hopefully some of the ladies can help you out (and I'm sure they probably will try).

You were in my thoughts today.
Good luck with everything,

Julie
