Borderline Tumor

by aries2, Sep 06, 2003 12:00AM
I am 26 years old with no children and had a cyst removed from one of my ovaries.  The pathology report came back as a borderline tumor with a low chance of being malignant.  I am waiting for my OB to hear back from an oncologist, but I am wondering what is usually the next step and what are the chances of it coming back. Also, when it is considered a low chance, how low do they mean? Also, we have been trying to have children for about a year and a half with no success.  We have tryed clomid with no success and the next step may be superovoulation.  Could this cyst have contributed to our fertility problems?  Thank you for any help you can give me.

What is staging surgery?

Staging surgery is where preferably a gynocologist oncologist looks for and removes all visible tumors and stages the cancer according to where and if it has spread.

I was diagonosed with Low Malignant Potential (LMP) Ovarian Cancer a year ago (at age 33)and was advised to have a hysterectomy once I've finished having a family (there are differing views on this).  Chemo or radiation is usually not necessary for this cancer.

After my diagnosis I insisted on a second opinion on the pathology as Borderline tumors can be very tricky.  Please look into this option.

I feel very fortunate to have been diagonosed with this type of cancer as it has a very low chance of reoccurence (hence the name).

Take Care,

Chelan
