Is/was this an Ovarian Cyst?

hello all, Kimmy from Australia here. I am hoping someone will be able to help me..
Pretty much just after my last menstrual cycle 4 weeks ago I started to feel nauseaus everyday, all day. it also corresponded with a period of emotional distress in my life, that has continued this time and i have felt unusually anxious. Then about 3 weeks ago I felt sharp pain under my rib cage, made the nausea worse. then I had dull ache lower right side (assumably where my ovary is) for this whole time. Had three days off work this last week, as the nausea became too much and I felt like my stomach is being eaten by acid, with frequent urination at times, pain during urination once or twice, sharp pains all over abdomen and bowell mainly right sided and dull aching right side of back leading down to over right buttock.
Well went to the doc three times - had blood tests for infections and blood cell count, etc - normal. Urine tests for infection (as urine has been dark) - normal. Upper abdomen ultra sound - kidney, pancreas, liver function - all normal. So their final say was to refer me through the public system to a gastroenterologist in 2 months or so..like I could put up with this for that long!
So I have taken to 'googling' and diagnosing myself.
Yesterday I got my period again and felt sicker than ever throughout the day, periods of throwing up white bile and overwhelming nausea with no relief. Last night my period was so heavy I was bleeding over the couch, felt really sick and really aching in pelvic area. Blood also appeared more clotted than usual, and I noticed some abnormal whiteness among that.
Today - I feel so much better already. I am actually half awake, haven't felt much stomach pain yet (though it takes awhile after getting up as lying down prevents it a lot), feel much much less nauseas and like things might be getting better.
What do you guys think? the doc felt around down over ovary but only briefly, could a cyst have been there but not felt? Have had tenderness all over region and abdomen, also right side of back.Normal excretions (though lot darker, not black) when going to toilet over the few weeks. Could I have had a cyst that ruptured slowly over the weeks and was only shed at my menstrual cycle? When will the toxins that have built up be fully released from my body, leaving my tum and bowell normal? Please help if you can - should I be pi*!%d at my doctor for sending me off for two months without a sonogram? Kim

I went to my gyn today. He did a pelvic exam and said that my uterus and fallopian tubes were swollen. I am scheduled for an U/S and hysteroscopy next week. He said that it could be an infection, cysts or endometriosis.  Has anyone had similar symptoms?

thanks for all your help guys, yes I will be requesting those tests for sure! has certainly eased off as my period finishes so it might be correcting itself. However I will call doc monday Morn, and yes, I do have Medicare. Not private - which is why have to wait so long for specialists!

Make an appt with your gyn asap.  He/she will probably send you for a transvaginal ultrasound.  I'm not a dr or a nurse, but your symptoms sound like a cyst is certainly a possibility.

Don't panic, the overwhelming majority of cysts are BENIGN.  That said, some types don't go away by themselves and if they rupture can be very painful.  Or even if they don't rupture, they can cause painful symptoms like you are describing.  If you have a cyst that has to be removed surgically, it can often by done by laparascopy -- a small incision.

Call your gyn and let us know what the outcome is!

I am getting concerned. I have had urinary urgency for 8+ months and  dull ache in my lower abdomen for about a year.  The Dull ache is experienced mainly on the right side and has intensified in the last month. I am really worried that I may have an ovarian cyst.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

Definitely sounds gynecological.  Maybe endometriosis?  See a gyn and get an ultrasound.

Good luck, I hope they find the problem and can help you!  If it makes you feel any better, your symptoms are not typical of ovarian cancer.  If you had a tumor the symptoms probably wouldn't go away between periods.

Hi Kimmy,

You should go back to your regular doctor and ask for a referal to a Gynocologist. When you make the appointment ask to be put on there cancellation list. Also ask your doctor that you request a pelvic ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound. try to get those tests done before you go to the Gyno. Do you have Medicare?
I hope that you are feeling better.
