Second Opinion

My wife age 33 had a salpingo oophorectomy last July ‘03, her left ovary & fallopian tube were removed due to a cystic mass. Result of the pathology revealed a "Granulosa Cell Tumor" but no indication if benign or malignant, the fallopian tube normal. There was no staging because surgery was done only by an OB  Gyne & his diagnosis was “endemetriosis”. We were later referred to a Gyne Oncologist afterwards w/c suspected her case to be stage 1. Her follow-up pap smear & trans V tests were normal. Due to these positive results & her good recovery everything was fine. Until recently, last month (her 3rd visit) the doctor advises her for a chemo w/o any accurate findings. Of course, my wife was shocked and hesitant, I was also not convinced of the idea because I have read similar cases that chemo therapy is not necessary in Stage 1 patients.  My questions are; 1. Is chemo really needed in my wife’s case?  2. Is hysterectomy required to avoid recurrence?

Any help and advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you & God Bless!

Loving husband,

Mr. Suave
