Hole in small intestine

by St. Joseph, Dec 20, 2002 12:00AM
My 76 year-old Mom has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The gyn/onc opened her up and surgically closed her without removing her ovaries, etc. as the cancer had spread. Chemo was to shrink the fast-growing tumor and then another surgery performed when things were under control. She has undergone two chemo treatments. Her incision got infected and her general surgeon diag a hole in her intestine. She has been in the hospital a week for the infection, draining abdominal bile and IV nutrition. Was the hole in the small intestine caused by the cancer, surgery or chemo? Will the hole heal? She is being transferred to another hospital for another type of nutritional IV. Will more chemo heal the hole? Thank you
