Family history and risk

My mother died at age 59 of ovarian cancer.  My great aunt on my mother's side also died of ovarian cancer.  I had the genetic testing which showed I did not have the mutated gene for breast or ovarian cancer which was a relief, however, I realize that doesn't exclude me from getting these cancers. After seeing the horrible pain and demise of my mother prior to her death I have considered having a hysterectomy and having my ovaries removed.  I am 42 years old and on the birth control pill.  My GYN doc feels I am being too "emotional" and feels I shouldn't consider having surgery when there is "nothing wrong with me".  Also, do you know if insurance companies cover this type of surgery when you elect to have this done?  Do you feel I am overreacting, or is my risk for this type of cancer great enough that this type of surgery would be warranted.  Thank you.

I have a question along the same lines. My mom died of epithelial ovarian cancer at age 38. When it was found when she was 37 it had spread extensively and was way too late. I am now 35 1/2, I'm done having kids, had genetic testing for the Brch genes last week (still waiting for results), but I have been advised by one of my doctors to go ahead and have full hysterectomy profilacally, another suggested just ovaries, another suggested no surgery...I'm curious about hormone replacement, early onset menopause, risk factors for hormone replacement and suggestions re what type of surgery... Thanks.
