No Onc/Gyn. back up for hysterctomy....

by josie55, Jan 09, 2004 12:00AM

I have ovarian cancer in my family, my mother died with it

and also had breast cancer, along with my aunt (her sister) and grandmother both had breast cancer. I am 48.

My dr. has me scheduled for a hysterectomy feb. 2 due to symptoms of ovarian cancer - continued unusual abdominal bloating, indigestion, heartburn, fullness, gas, belching,

loose bowels, constipation for 2.5 mos or more now, irr.menses Enlarged ovary with a structure that was found mid Nov.

I have tumor market CA125 of 24.5(my mom never had  elevated CA125) CEA 2.2. Due to continued abdominal bloating w/fullness and - anxiety - I went to my Dr. for recheck one month prior to repeat trans.vag. U.S. I had not been phys. exam. since 3/03.

My uterus is 13.5 cm length x 5.5 cm height x 7.5 cm width. hypoechoic structures in myometrium size between 1.4cm and 2.6 cm consistent with fibroids.  I have right ovary measuring 3.8 cm x 2.9 cm with a structure of 2.2 cm. There is a small hypoechoic structure demonstrating low level echoes.  Left over

surgically absent (at 17 I had ruptured ovarian cyst and then surgical removal 2 years later.)

At the bottom of this report I just noticed this....IMPRESSION,

Redemonstration of at least 3 uter. fibroids, The endo. stripe appears within normal lmts. for age.  There are multiple nabothian cysts.  There are simple and hemorrhagic appearing cysts within the right ovary as described above.

What does this mean and would you have a Dr. who has no onc./gyn. back up for my hysterctomy perform the surgery?

Should I be seen by a ONC/GYN? What should I do? Thanks!
