I had radiation therapy in infancy-what now?

by Hokey, Jan 30, 2004 12:00AM
I am 38 years old and had high dose radiation therapy (x-rays over and over) on what they thought was a raised hymangeoma (strawberry mark) on my mid spine at one month old. They burnt it flat, and dark purple. At age 14 I had extreme pain in it and when they operated, it was a nerve cluster. Cutting into it it caused such a mess, but is now ok. Anyway, am I at raised risk of cancer (or anything else I should know about to watch for) from the radiation? I had a very hard time carrying my daughter to term, but I got close enough on bedrest and she is perfect. I am of normal weight and height, but have closure defects of the hip sockets, and jaw bone which are undetectable to people who don't know. I can (but don't anymore) slip my hips out of the sockets and my two front teeth are wired together (orthodontics) to hide the huge gap like I was almost a clef palate, but it closed up. Are these all related? Does it mean anything? Should I watch my daughter for anything from my radiation exposure?  Thank you for doing this program.
