12.41cm Cyst, not sure what to think. Help please!

Hi Ladies,
Just found this site on google and probably don't belong. But anyway, I'm 10wks PP and at 8.5 wks pp went to the dr's for stomach pain that wasn't going away. When pg I had a large cyst on my left ovary, on 9th may this year it was 8.1cms.
Anyway, the dr sent me for a scan since my fundus felt like that of 20wks pg still.
I went for that scan today, turns out the cyst is what he was feeling and has now grown to 12.41cms (didn't remember the other measurements) and 455cc(whatever that means). The ultrasound guy was quite helpful and answered the questions I had since I gave him so much info.
He was actually thinking the cyst was my bladder since they were so close to each other with just a thin wall separating them. He said in 30 years there has only been 3 times when he has nearly missed something 'serious' and this was one of them and had I not told him of the cyst he likely would have missed it.
Anyway, being the size it is and that it is still growing even after my son has been born, would it need to be surgically removed and how.
How do I know if it is complex or simple?
He also said I may lose my ovary since it is so big :(
I have already had a CIN III with cervix, what is the likelyhood this could be cancer.
Quite worried as I have 5 young children!
Oh I also have a blood test form, but the dr thought the pain might be from gallbladder, this is what he ordered, will it help. FBE; E/LFTs: Urine M/C/S; ESR, CRP
Don't know when the dr will be seeing me next.
TIA

Well the dr who sent me for the scan rang tonight at 7.50pm (so after the clinic had closed). He is re-referring me to my OBGYN whom was watching the cyst during my pgcy. Scares me that he rang as there has only been one other time a dr has actually rang me about a test result and it wasn't good (normally they just send a letter telling me to make an appointment to discuss results or I have to ring them).
He did say the report said it was a simple cyst, so I guess that is good! But he is obviously still concerned seeing as though he rang me after hours!

The ladies are right, 99% of ovarian cysts are benign, but you are wise not to ignore your symptoms.  I would suggest that you get 2nd opinion with a gyn/onc as they are specialists in womens gyn issues and have seen it all.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

I started having symptoms (mainly jsut a lot of pressure on my bladder) in the beginning of May.  By July 21st - I was at my drs for a check up.  They found a softball size cyst on my right ovary that was complex.  I had the CA-125 done and it came back elevated, but my DR. reassured me that it isn't an indication of anything b/c it isn't a good cancer marker.  One week later i was in surgery and the cyst had grown to cantaloupe size.  It turned out to be an endometreoma that was benign.  You should make sure that you have a dr that you like and trust and that you are getting all your questions answered.  My guess is that they are going to operate b/c it is large and the ONLY way they can determine anything is by biopsy.  Don't worry - the surgery isn't bad.  And the recovery goes relatively quickly.

All the women here are great and VERY helpful!  Ask as many questions as you need to and don't be shy.

good luck to you,
Laura

thankyou to both of you.
Back in May where it was first noticed they checked for debri and couldn't find any, yesterday was not at a high tech ultrasound place so they just measured it. I am assuming it is still just fluid since that is what it seemed to be in May. I don't think it can change can it?
Thanks again.

Some complex cysts do go away on there own if they are hemorrhagic cysts, however, these are smaller than yours. You will probably have surgery since it continues to grow. The 455cc that you are talking about is the volume within the cyst...the amount of fluid in there...There are 5cc's in 1 teaspooon, so...`100cc=20tsp.... if you're number isn't a typo then you would have approx. 95tsp. of fluid in it. Fluid isn't necessarily a bad thing...do you have any compexities in the cyst? Keep in mind, most cysts are benign. Mine looked bad and was half the size of yours but had different complex stuff in it and was changing and had grown daughter cysts and had blood supply but still came back benign! Nothing is always what it seems to be. Good luck to you and take care!!

A cyst at 12cm will probably need to be removed.... Did they mention whether it was complex or simple, debris in cyst, etc? Those are all things they can tell by doing the US of the cyst and should be able to tell you.
A simple cyst is just fluid filled... normally they go away on their own but sometimes one gets 'stuck' and keeps growing. If it's just fluid, they may be able to use the long needle and drain it.
If it's complex, then it will not go away on it's own and will need to be surgically removed. Remember, 99% of cysts are benign.... so you can breathe now. :)
Keep being proactive in your treatment. Make them figure out what's going on in there, and get you back to normal faster.
Hang in there!
