any help before surgery

Hi everyone.I am scheduled for surgery the end of the month and
want to be in top form (as much as possible!) before so i was wondering is there are any vitamins or anything anyone knows of or has done to help the immune system before the op?
Thanks

Help me a lot daily walking, two times. I have a German Shorthair Pointer dog, she need a lot of walking, and running.
She helped me a lot, and I wasn't home alone...
Before surgery, I take C vitamins (1000mg/day), Centrum, A and E vitamins, Calcium, Selenium. The "C is very important. My recovery was very fast, Second morning, walking, the only thing, no energy after surgery.

hi - just got home from the hospital yesterday from my surgery.  some of the things i tried were:

* adding supplements that i had researched & that my sister-in-law who is a nutritional advisor recommended to me.  (I stopped these one week before surgery in case any of them had blood-thinning side effects).  I had a pretty poor diet before getting sick though so could really see the difference they made.  specifically, i added E3LIve which is a type of blue-green algae you can order online or get at a health food store.

* walking & doing some gentle qi-gong (similiar to tai chi) exercises

* using the time to gather information - especially on what to expect during & post surgery.  I had friends hook me up with practical hospital advice (bring own pillows, bring an eye mask, bring snacks for you or family, know that you have a right to see or request a copy of your medical chart, ask for more pain meds if you need them, ask to see the nursing supervisior if you are receiving poor care, etc)and more long-term help such as consulting with a fertility specialist about preserving ovarian tissue if my tumor was malignant & a TAH was necessary (it wasn't, for which i'm thankful).

* one thing i wish i had done, but didn't, was to get a massage right before surgery - help the body relax, clear spots of accumulated toxins, etc.

random list, but hope some of it is helpful.  good luck to you.

I'm personally a big believer in homeopathic arnica a day or two prior to surgery and afterwards. Having been cut open and had my insides rearranged twice :-)(and looking at a third go soon) I have recovered extremely rapidly both times to the point where hospital staff have commented that they couldn't believe how mobile I was so soon after surgery.

Exercise if you can.  If you have trouble, try to walk everyday.  It will really make a difference in your recovery.  Be careful about taking nutritional supplements, so many things can happen from them. The stronger you are before, the faster you will heal afterwards.  Mery

I did a lot of research on help for the immune system the health food stores have a juice made from Goji berries It sure helped my daughter.  they come from Tibet and China  look them up on the net  You can get them in many forms.  In fact my whole family is now drinking it.  it has cut down incidences of illnesses for us. closest thing here in the states are cranberries. just type in Goji  and you will get a lot of info.

I highly recommend exercise.  It builds up the immune system and get your muscles in shape for after surgery.  It really helped me.
