Anyone ever had normal Ca125and upon removal of mass cancer show up?

This is my first post. I have been watching this site for about 6 weeks now. I am 46 years old. I Had a hyst- in 2001. I was left one ovary. The ovary that was left had a cyst on it but the doctor did not seem concerned. He said it would help with not going into menapause. About 16 months ago I started having terrible pain. Then 4 or so months ago then it really starting making me very uncomfortable. I finally went to the gyn. I just could not stand it any longer. He did all the tests CA125 normal 14. My mass is weird looking. It is growing into my intestines and other things. I don't know the size in numbers.I am concerned about it though. My abdomon is very swollen I frequent the restroom. Tuesday the 5th of Dec I am having this ovary removed. I have another dilema though. I have been sick with a resp infection pnuemonia, sinus infection for 4 months. I have been on 10 different antibiotics. I have to have a spinal block due to my breathing problems thats the only way the surgeon will do it. I am better though. My doc has been waiting for this to clear up so he can operate. He recomends it coming out. Should I be worried? Can cancer still show up in my pathology? I have alot of faith. But i did not go to gyn since my hyst. I feel I screwed up not taking care of myself. I know now. We women always put ourselves on the back burner why do we do that?

I am feeling really great physically even after my 2nd chemo...No side effects except hairlose...Still think it is because I am taking a Chinese/Japanese mushroom herb and lots of Vitamin C.  Actually have been told from friends that by increasing their vitamin c to 3000 - 5000 mg per day, they no longer have allergies and colds.  Think about increasing your vitamin C???
Get those lungs cleared out, my OBGYN wouldn't operate on me till I solved my lung problem issues.

That is so interesting for you to say that. I have been so frustrated. I have had about 8 chest xrays ct scans. I went to a pulmonologist too. How exactly does cancer cells affect the lungs. My CA 125 is 14 very normal. I have a cough that is so deep very painful to cough. I even went to a allergist. He did all the allergy tests too. I have 14 allergys crazy. I am on inhalers and will soon be starting my allegy shots after surgery. I had ct of abdomen. Two ultrasounds. I all of a sudden came up with cellulitis behind my right eye the first of July. Then I developed pnemonia, sinus problems, then I had a nasty relapse. I was on steroids off and on for a couple months. My gyn doc is finally taking me very seriously. However about what you suggest, an odd chest X ray then why hasnt anyone suggested that. I am told my Pnemonia is gone. But the cough and some scarring is still showing up on my lungs. Thank you so much for this info. I appreciate anything folks can share with me. My family is so tired of me being sick, if they only knew just how tired i really am. My doctor is concerned mainly about the risk with my lungs. I have to have a spinal block the anesthgelogist (spell check) DUH ) will not go the normal route for putting me under. They said my breathing is so bad, its just not worth the risk. With all the doctors I have seen I am advised to get the ovary out ASAP!!!! I started predisone today and will take for  3 days up until midnight before surgery. I am on Clindimiacin antibiotic. Again thank you Kimchi. Now how are you what was your exact problem. I would like to talk to you more. What you say does not scare me. When i had my  hyst I was told that my path report after that surgery showed cervical cancer. Yet I have not been to doctor for yearly paps since then until this year. Well all telling right before that surgery my dad died, then 3 weeks after my surgery my mom was killed in head on collision. I just hit a funk in the road and being a mom and trying to just survive emotionally. That is a horrible excuse I know, but thats the deal. I am gonna mention to my doc on my pre op appt MOnday about what you said. Thanks

Some us of are just destined to put ourselves on the back burner, remain stoic, dutiful, etc...while there are those who rush and demand.  I think all that matters is that we know our truth. Now it's really time for you to be attended to and give yourself credit for being where you are seeking and getting care.  May I ask what imaging test you had to determine the mass?  I too have had this lingering question about "real" experience with the CA-125's accuracy.  I had an MRI/MRCP in late Oct. that confirmed my many abdominal adhesions and bilateral complex renal cysts.  I have been telling my doctors GYN, GP, GASTRO, since Feb. my major complaint was frequent urination.  I went to an excellent urologist last week who did a pelvic ultrasound and kidney ultrasound in the office.  I had two suspicious masses over my ovaries.  She suspects it is scar tissue pressing on my bladder but has ordered a transvag US in 6 weeks to be performed by her preferred imaging center.  I just wanted to take this opportunity to express how complex we are and we must listen to those little signals. One of ladies on here recently was diagnosed with a pancreactic mass and cyst.  The "crossover" of symptoms from pelvic to abdominal is so frustrating, imagine what the doctors must really think about us.  Compassion I hope.  Since Feb 06 I have been told it's probably IBS, Fibromy, and even in my head and that I've had every test and I'm probably not dying...  Well the CA-125 and CA-19-9 are better as followup tests not diagnostic tests period according to the published research.  My gyn refused my request for one back in Feb.  I had one in July, normal.  I am going for several urological tests the next several weeks to rule out bladder cancer, analyze kidney stone formations, metabolic blood tests, etc...  Only we know our own pain and what is in our head.  Good Luck with surgery.

Thank you so much for this wonderful info. Thats why I have grown to apprecitate this website! I had two ultrasounds done the vagi one included. I viewed the film with doc and its clear what its intentions are by the looks of it. Then a ct scan was ordered and again the scan gave in more detail of my intestines.
I am taking a very aggressive approach I know having it removed. I am being very careful in seeking other doctors and everyone takes the same spin on this REMOVE. I have a certain peace but like I said earlier on the post I am just a little nervous. It is what it is surgery  YUCK!! 2006 has really revealed some terrible things for me. I had a heart attack on Feb 14th nothing big but a heart attack. I took the writing on the wall and  got a handle on my blood pressure it was hovering 190/105 just about everyday.  Now I have it in the normal range thank GOD!! So I have used 2006 as my marker" hey old broad you get yourself well in all your power and awareness." So this ovary is interfering with my wonderful life. My nest is emptying this year it brings its own box of emotions. I have 4 children, in 2005 my three older children left my home, college and the service. So I was on the back burner and now I am taking a good look at me and saying TAKE CARE OF ME. I want to see what these kids do with their lives. I raised them for 12 years all by myself. So come Tuesday Morning (that sounds like a song coming on) LOL when I face my surgery. I face it with faith, hope, and lots of percocet!!!!!!!!!! AND A BRAND NEW 2007 CALENDER hahahhaahahh! thank you all for your offerings of encouragment. I dont feel so quite alone now.

i like you had hystectomy(left both ovaries)but many years ago. i began to  get pain also, but doc did not believe that it was all from left ovary. CA125.9. Had ovaries removed a wk ago and the op took over 3 hours as the left ovary was embedded so badley in to the bowel. It was also stuck to the bladder and the small cyst that was also there was stuck to everything. They have now told me that all my pain was conected to the ovaries(1 point to me)still have to wait for the analysis of what they removed but not too worried.Hope this is of help to you.Good luck.Dawn

I'm ready for a 2007 calendar too.  I am acutally looking forward to my 41st birthday as I have my followup MRI for the renal cysts scheduled on that day.  I have two girls 4 and 7 and wish I could have given them a better year.  My parents divorced when I was nine and I turned out absoulutely great.  I actually need to tell my mom how much I admired her strength doing so much on her own, et...  I can tell from your posts they are blessed to have a wise mother.  You are in my prayers.

Thank you for your kind words. I hang on to so much people are saying to me these days. I look at this as one more hurdle. With every hurdle we jump it prepares us for the next. Thanks Shirl

Suggest you have your lungs x-rayed and insist on posing with your arms over your head and one lying on your side.  Your chest problem could be due to pleural effusion, which is what I had but did not appear on the first xray as it is fluid and fluid shifts so difficult to catch.  Your chest problem could be caused by this which is caused by ovarian cancer cells.  Don't mean to upset you but this may explain the lenghty lung problem which I had for almost 1 year till I went to see lung specialist after being told by OBGYN that it was not related to my growths. Even had digestive problems for many months and again was told by OGBYN not related so went to see Internal Med doctor and asked to be tested for ulcers and other stomach/digestive related problems. Wish I had known more about OC as this and stomach problems ARE symptoms of OC.

I had my hyst- because of bleeding and endo in my uterus my ovary that was removed was really enlarged. I tolerated all of that for about 8 years. I thank you for your comments. My surgeon is not an oncologist. I have a sister who had ovar cancer, and she had double mastectomy also. She is still with us thank God! She's my gauge to stay on top of this. I hear about this ca125 test and its such a mixed bag! Being that it is normal I hope I just have an ugly ovary that needs to come out. I am nervous though its only natural. I am so grateful for this site, its nice to see women helping women.

Could it be adhesions possibly?  Why did you have the hysterectomy in the first place?  You know that the CA125 test is not always reliable. Many of these ladies will soon be here to help you. Is your surgeon also an Onocolgist?  Sounds like you are in a great deal of pain, I sure hope all comes out clear for you the 5th.
