Bleeding after laparoscopic ophorectomy (one ovary removal)

I had a 7.3 cm cyst on my left overy that twisted and resulted int the removal of my left ovary on Saturday. I was told a light bleeding is to be expected, but anything heavier or clotting needs attention. So it is now Monday and I an experiencing a heavier bleeding. Last two days it has been a light pink, now its red blood and more of it since 7:30am. I called my obgyn office and they said that is normal is just the hormone and adjusting to the removal. I am a little concerned even though they said it should be normal. What do you think or know about this surgery??

i just had an overian cyst removed on 5/15.  Had excrutiating pain prior to it.  Had  what they call a chocolate cyst on my left overie.  They removed the cyst and the overie. Had the usual gas pain and discomfort from the two insicions on the sides and the belly button.  Still am very swollen..look like i could be a couple of months pregnant..today i have been experiencing tenderness and mild cramping all day long. Like a burning sensation. I have to say its freekin me out.

I had my right ovary removed (due to a dermoid cyst)2-1/2 years ago (4 months after having my daughter) -- yes you will still get your monthly period.

My experience is that now since the surgery everything seems enhanced - hormones, moodiness, discharge, even bleeding is sometimes very heavy other times hardly there.  Things I never really had or noticed before. Could also be from becoming a mom?  Has anyone had these changes happen?

My regular period was 2 weeks ago.  I had my ovary removed via laparscopic surgery 3 days ago and am now bleeding like a regular period.  No cramping.  Must be hormone adjustment.  Anyone have a comment about discomfort from the gas they pump into you?  I have sharp pain under my rib cage and have to sleep propped up.  How soon does that stop?

I had laparoscopic surgery 4 weeks ago for what they thought to be a eptopic pregnancy, and I still have bleeding and bad back pain, the doctor  says it could take some time for the bleeding to stop.  Does this sound right to anyone. When is the pain going to stop?

I just recently had my left ovray removed and the fallopian tube because my cyst was so embedded in the tube and ovary there was nothing else the doctor could do. Being at such a young age, well not really YOUNG, 19 years old, but still young for this to happen, i was a little upset. But right after my surgery i had a little bleeding. I was used to this because a month piror to this surgery i had another surgery to drain a cyst and after that surgery i had very little bleeding. So to see blood after this surgery didn't worry me, but after i had gotten home and had been moving around alot i started to bleed ALOT!! I freaked out and called my doctor and he said that everything was normal that if i hadn't stopped bleeding by the end of my pack of birth control pills to inform him. Well i am now on my sugar pills, supposed to be starting my period any day and i still have little amounts of blood. But today i have had  A LOT of blood and i'm thinking its my period because its a whole lot more than normal. please help i'm a little freaked out!

Yes at first they thought it might be ovarian cancer bacause they saw a cyst in the ultrasound and I am 46 and yes pursuing fertility treatements (please dont laugh). So after a second opinion no cancer but a fallopian tube that had been blocked for some time as well as an ovarian right dominance..even tho I am left handed, left footed and left eyed. If you have a blocked fallopian tube a cyst will or maybe will (Im not a doctor) develop.So..46 NO to INF only hope removel of right  dominant ovary. HMMMM (whats a girl going to do?) So yes to the last thread I was in for 24 hours after the removal of the ovary..I was scared because I was afraid of complications, not my first surgery. I have had no complications however apart from my periods are now really weird. They used to be so perfectly 28 days timed and now they are not. The consistency is also different..more bloody and heavier than normal. So I am grateful to hear that other women have had some similar experiences. I thought something must have gone wrong, but it sounds like its normal.  I used to live in a large city where any specialist was there in a second. Now I live in a small town and specialized knowledge is harder to come by.I am realy gratefull for this site and the women that have posted their experiences, I feel less isolated.

Hi Guys,

I had both ovaries removed 13th December by keyhole surgery due to large cyst on right ovary, the other was ok, but they took it away due to my age and the risk of cancer later on.

I bled a little in hospital, but when they discharged me (day after surgery), it got heavier and heavier until I landed up a few days later in A&E 6am on a Sunday morning!  Doctors informed me that it was all to do with the operation and hormones being imbalanced due to the surgery.  Apparently, if you have any surgery around the cervix, etc, you are sometimes proned to excessive bleeding.  They gave me some tablets and it did virtually stop straight away.

I was not impressed with the after care, felt I was discharged too soon, and just left to get on with it!!!

I had a surprise ovary & Fallopian removal in October. I went in for a fallopian cyst removal and laproscopy. After my surgery I was in so much pain and bled a lot (or what I thought was a lot for the surgery I thought I had done). A week later my doctor informed me that my ultrasounds had been read incorrectly and when he went in with the scope he discovered that I had a huge ovarian cyst that had destroyed my left ovary. SO he removed it. The heavy bleeding made sense after that. But I was also moving around more than what I should have.

Numbness in normal over the area that had surgery. I actually still have a little numb areas right over and around my scars from surgery in May. That is normal, since they use lidocaine to do the stitches, and internal numbers to help make everything feel a little less painful.

Well I am sorry to hear about your loss as well, but thank you for responding.
My periods have always been very irregular, and only 3-4 days with little to no cramping. So who knows if I should be on my period or not. I guess from the sounds it seems normal for the bleeding. I am just now today experiencing a little more pain and seems to be swelling or a slight bloating. But I am not really eating as much as I normally would either so I dont know. I guess it would seem normal for some swelling after surgery. Then my other question would did you experience numbing over thr right side where your ovary was removed?? When I touch or rub my lower abdomen on my left side I really have no feeling there?? And if so, does it come back??

Hi Jess,
Had a rough day but just had to answer.  I had left ovary removed last November via laparotomy.  Had no heavey bleeding post-op until my normally expected period.  Then paybacks were a *****!.  Then one ofter that was no either!  However, I normally had heavey flow and bad cramps so for me, this was just more of the same but ampligied.  Thing is, I wonder when you you expected the next round and where this happened.  Sure does not sound par from my expereience but that can  be Oh so different from woman to woman.  Tough part is discerning what is schedule for you an what is not.  I get the impression this was not.  Tell us more!  MV

For those of you that know me. the rough day means we lost my old friend Bear, one of my Cats.  He was a good Boy who kept us company for 12 years.  We loved him and he will be missed!  MV

After having my right ovary removed, I bleed a little heavier than a normal period. There was a little clotting like I have during a period, but nothing major. My doctor said that it was a combination of the trauma my body experienced during surgery and having a period. Although you may feel alright, your body goes through a lot when you have surgery. She insists that the bleeding and even the small clots are normal.

I had laparoscopic surgery to remove just a dermoid that was in my ovary and bleed a fair amount, starting off light, and then got heavier and eventually morphed into my period.  I asked my gyno about it and he said it was my body adjusting.  I know that doesn't really relate directly to you, but maybe it will rest your mind a bit.

Thank you I appreciate you taking time to respond, I feel a bit more at ease. Being my first surgery of ANY kind I am a little paranoid and scared of every little change.

Hi, I had an ovary/cyst removed 5 weeks ago and i experienced the same thing.  I didn't expect to bleed as much as I did and my Dr. said that it may be a period, even though I wasn't supposed to start at that time.  It lasted about 5 days for me, the heaviest being the 3rd and 4th day then it tapered off.
