Ovarian Cyst/Abdominal/Back pain

Two weeks agao, I began having extreme pain in my lower right abdomen.  Went to the urologist referred by my OB/Gyn.  He ordered a CT scan and read it (b/f radioligist did) and thought it was a 4 mm kidney stone.  The radiologist came back and said my urethra tract looked fine and it was an ovarian cyst - about 2 cm and some fibroids. I ask, what Dr. can confuse a uretha tract with an ovary??! My history includes 2 oc's removed in May of 04 b/c they were septated. But this one does not show septation, but the symtoms are 100-fold of those removed. My OB/Gyn just says, "oh, i don't know what is causing the pain - take some Ibuprofen 800." I already take vicoprofen for a compressed neck disc and i get little relief from this severe pain. After reading all of the comments in the forums, I am getting very concerned.  This also the same Dr. that said my mirena IUD was not the cause of my drastic mood swings.  Had it in about 2 weeks and went just about crazy.  2 days after removal i was fine. I would like to request from my Dr. a CA125 test and an MRI. The pain i have experiencing for the past 2 weeks includes severe abdominal cramping (like constant contractions) that goes into my groin and down my legs (now on both sides), extreme aching lower back pain that you would not believe, extreme fatigue, and a complete loss of any sexual appetite (this is very bothersome). IBS is also a major symtom, as well as blood in my urine (UT is normal) and very irregular periods. I feel completely "out of it". So, knowing my body all too well, something is very awry. Please advise. Thanks.

hello, I have been having abdominal cramping along with back pain and pain on my lower right side, I have been having this pain for almost a week now. Is there anyone who knows or may have had the same symptons as I have. I have been feeling nauseated like I want to throw up and have been dizzy as well all week. These pains come and go at times, but I find them coming and staying with me. Is there anyone who could help me figure out what is wrong or someone who has had the same problems. Thanks!

I'm so glad you are looking at getting a new doctor.  Many specialists are booked months out so why don't you schedule an appointment and, if miraculously you are better, you can always cancel.  Just don't ignore the pain - my aunt's doctor did and she isn't around anymore - he spent two years telling her she was crazy, unfortunately it was ovarian cancer.  Don't mean to scare you but benign ovarian problems often have very similar symptoms as malignant ones.

Hey, just for grins, have your new doctor check your thyroid levels too.  I've had both recurrent ovarian cysts and major thyroid problems (mine was cancer but its rare) and some of your symptoms could be attributed to thyroid problems (which often go hand-in-hand with ovarian cysts and Type II diabetes).  Simple blood work it's worth checking - sometimes when one thing goes crazy in the endocrine system it will affect another.

If the pain is too much go to the emergency room!  Tell them your history and symptoms, you'd be surprised how many of us have been diagnosed in the ER and gotten a fast referral to a specialist.

Hang in there and try not to choke the incompetent doc.  :-)
Good luck!!

Thanks for your more than $0.02 worth.  I am already heading in that direction.  I found a Gyn/Onc in the same location as my GP (internest) at Rush Med. Center in Chicago.  They are very rare to come by and that was the closest one I found, but feel good about it being at Rush.  I just keep thinking the pain will go away and maybe it will with my next period - i'll see, but they have been so irregular, who knows when that will be.  I have never been irregular in my life (except when I had 2 OC's removed in May of '04); got pregnant because of the irregularity, but she's beautiful!  Thanks again.

Just my $.02 worth.  I had to go through six OB/GYNs before I found one that would 1) listen to me, 2) take me seriously, 3) listen to what I wanted to be done (ovarian removal WITHOUT hysto), and 4) do it.  My OB/GYN was wonderful and my huge, hemorrhagic cyst was not cancer (thank god) but I went through a lot of doctors and six months of hell before I found one that wanted to be PARTNERS in my healthcare instead of consider me crazy or just give me the standard ($$$) answer.  Please consider a second opinion (or third . . . )

You know, another thing it could possibly be is adhesions.  Go through the archives and look for posts about adhesions and body rolling.  I have adhesions really bad, but since I started the body rolling it has helped tremendously.  There are several old threads relating to adhesions and body rolling.  I hope this helps.

Hi again - I also had 2 oc's removed in May of '04, benign, so i do know the pain goes completely away with surgery.  But the pain was no where near what i'm going through now.  Thanks again.  I love these forums; all of the support does make one feel so not alone (my husband tries to understand, but I'm such a bummer to be around right now, I wouldn't want to be around me).

I did have that kind of ultrasound that showed the cyst and some fibroids - nothing that should cause the pain, so the Dr. says.  I can't get in to see him until next week when he will go over my ultrasound test (I recall him doing that last week when he got the results; is there something he's not telling me??!!) and do an exam.  I think I'll jump off a cliff by then.  I have no desire for anything right now and this is totally not like me.  Maybe I'll take your advice and see a gyn/onc, preferably a WOMAN.  I dare one man to be in this pain for as long as I've been and "just wait and see."  But it will probably take that long to get into see anyone else anyway.  Maybe a couple weeks on a very warm, tropical, paradise island would make me feel better.  Yeah it would, if I had the cash to go....  Thanks for your comments.

HI and welcome!  It does sound like an ovarian cyst to me, but you really need to seek a 2nd opinion from a gyn/onc.  Not because of cancer but because they are the specialists in the female reproductive area.
Your symptoms are the same that mine were when I had 2 12inch dermoid tumors on my ovaries.  They and my left ovary & tube and 90% of my right ovary were removed.  They were found to be benign (as are 99% of ovarian cysts, tumors and masses)  However you need to continue to seek medical attention to find out for sure what is going on.  A transvaginal ultra sound will help also.
Once the tumors were removed, my pain and symptoms went with them!  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Godspeed
