complex ovarian cysts and menopause

by Sherrlane, May 13, 2004 12:00AM
I am 48 years old and am going thru menopause. My last full period was early last July. And spotting early October. When I went to my GYN in February she sent me for blood work and a sono. Because of feeling bloated and crampy all the time. Like I'm going to start my period but never do. I had a complex cyst measuring 2.9 on my right ovary and a few small fibroids. Which she chose to reevaluate in 3 months. The blood work showed I was indeed in menopause. And they also did a ca125. Which was only a 10. I do know this isn't accurate as a test per say for cancer ,but to monitor a known cancer.

On the 20th of April I was doubled over with pain in my right side. I started a discharge of very dark and mucousy substance a short time later, that lasted for a few days. I knew my cyst had ruptured because I've had them rupture in the past.

I went in for my scheduled sono on May 12th. And was surprised to hear that not only was the complex cyst still there, although somewhat smaller 1.8. But I had another complex cyst on my left ovary measuring 2.7 and the fibroids were unchanged.

Is this common during menopause? Should I be concerned? My appointment with GYN isn't till next week to discuss this. Can a cyst partially rupture? My understanding is complex cysts are not common in menopausal women, and could indeed be cancerous. Is this true?

I'd appreciate any information you may have on this subject. I do know this is a cancer site and I haven't been diagnosed with it. But I'm very worried it could be. Thanks
