Can an ovary grow back?

by shelle12, Jun 27, 2004 12:00AM
I had my uterus removed when I was 23 yrs old, than 6 months later I had my right ovary removed. I have suffered with severe endometriosis since about age 15. I'm now 37, and 2 yrs ago I had my left ovary removed due to a baseball size cyst. Unfortunatly the Doctor informed me that he was unable to completely remove all of the ovary due to something about everything being fused to my urethra, thanks to the endometriosis..... He also stated that there were 3 kelley (spelling?) clamps left on the left side, which made him think that the other Doctor had tried to remove the left ovary at the time he took the right one and ran into bleeding problems, and got out when he could. I should mention during that time I had spent 9 long days in the hospital.... he had also punctured my bladder. Not a pleasant experience! Being 23 and all.... I recovered very well from this last one 2 years ago, except I started having the same terrible pain again. It's happened a few times now, every couple months. This time I couldn't handle the severe pain and called the Doctor. He saw me right away and has set me up for some additional tests. After my examination he thinks that my ovary has grown back and that I do have another cyst, and that it's (the ovary and the cyst) are attached to the top of my vagina. Is this possible? Can an ovary really grow back because he was unable to remove all of the tissue? It would certainly explain why during the month I still go through my normal mood swings and some cramping, ect... I have never experienced not even one "hot flash". Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I AM ASKING THIS SAME QUESTION.  I HAD A HYSTERECTOMY WITH MY TUBES AND OVARIES REMOVED WHEN I WAS 30.  I AM 48 NOW AND JUST TOLD I HAVE A RIGHT OVARY AND IT HAS A 7MM AND A 11MM CYST GROWING ON IT.   I DIDN'T KNOW THEY COULD GROW BACK!  THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY IS HAVE I HAVE BEEN SEEING THE STICKY EGG WHITE LIKE SUBSTANCE AS IF I WERE OVULATING.
