I recently came across an article on female circumcion from an American health journal that caught my eye. The information that it contained made me question it's accuracy. I would like to know if this article on female circumcision bares any truth.
Redundancy or phimosis of the female prepuce can prevent proper enjoyment of sexual relations; yet some modern physicians overlook indications for circumcision. Indications for, and relative contraindications against, use of this procedure are presented, and a new technique is described. Properly carried out, circumcision should bring improvement to 85 to 90 per cent of cases - with resulting cure of psychosomatic illness and prevention of divorces.

In general terms, the main indications for circumcision are: (1) functional need - lack of ability to have a climax or ability to have one only with considerable difficulty, (2) an anatomic or mechanical factor that needs correction.

Whatever this person is talking about is either very rare or non existant. I suppose he is talking about a clitoris that has a hood that covers it so that the clitoris itself is not exposed. This is not common- and it certainly could not be the direct cause of divorce or psychosomatic illness! Nothing should be done that is surgical unless the skin adheres to the clitoris and prevents it from being touched or impedes friction during intercourse. The whole thing is quite suspect especially using the word "circumcision"- which has never been a term used in mainline medical practice and is usually a term used to describe excising the whole clitoris, a form of genital mutilation in some parts of Africa and the middle east.

I beg to differ...in a lot of African countries female circumcision is widely practiced. The African men do it to keep their wives faithful. If I am not mistaken, Naomi Campbell has had it done to her when she was a child before she left Africa. It is a barbaric practice but is definitely done. The whole clit is cut off.
