This forum is for questions and support regarding lung and respiratory issues such as: Allergies, Asthma, Bronchitis, Colds - Flu, Chronic Cough, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, Emphysema, Fibrosis, Lung Abscess, Nasal Polyps, Pleurisy, Pneumonia, Sarcoidosis, Sinusitis, Tuberculosis

One possible explanation for your complaints is a systemic disease called sarcoidosis. It can affect any organ, including the throat, tongue and muscles. One of my complaints early on was that my tongue felt swollen, enlarged, and as a result, I sometimes bit it.
Sarcoidosis is a disease that can be difficult to diagnose and it is often misdiagnosed. The general textbook discriptions of this disease are rather vague. You may find the information that will answer your questions by going to PubMed and searching by keywords such as "tongue" and "sarcoidosis."
There is a general site on sarcoidosis at www.sarcinfo.com that has a lot of information about the disease. Hope this helps.
