| Shimsham 1/29/2005 | . | I have suffered from actute Broncitis for a month. The lung specialist says I am clear (lungs) and am dealing with the post virual infection in broncical tubes. I am on steriods, narcodics and using AdVair. The pain under my left side (rib cage stomach has been subsided with some of the medicine but is still constant). Two Drs. said possible rib fracture but no test done outside of lung xrays. Should I be concerned with something else going on with the pain? My coughing spasms leave me gasping still-my stomach muscles are still sore and aching and feels pulled? Do I need more tests? I would like to get make to work and be functionable but raising my left arm above my head hurts, and any leaning to the right causes pain. Should I see a different type of specialist (outside lung) for this problem? Thank you, Concerned individual. |
| NJC-R.N.-DC 2/14/2005 | Shimsham | I agree with the lung specialist. You probably sustained rib fracture(s) and they can hurt for a long time. There need be no other explanation for the pain. If the chest x-ray is clear, no further testing is needed. Unless fractured ribs are badly displaced, especially with jagged ends, there is no need to address the fractures. One's rib cage is not very flexible and hard coughing can result not only in rib fractures, but also cartilage tears and torn ligaments, all of which can be quite painful. | [Thread closed to new comments] |
