Affects of smoking on health

by poolnoni, May 09, 2006 12:00AM
I was a smoker for 20 years, not heavy but still a smoker.  I quit in 1994 when my mother died of a stroke. I never thought about what smoking could do to the lungs, I just thought about the stroke and heart disease.  If any of you readers still smoke or know someone you love that smokes, please, keep after them to quit and quit yourself. It is a dangerous bad habit not a cool one.  I live in a state where smoking is a big habit and it probably will not be banned any too soon.So STOP RIGHT NOW, it is never too late.

Smoking is a slow, but very effective, way to poison your body and make yourself and those you love sick.  Quitting now will add years to your life.  It is never too late to quit smoking.

Commit a death-defying act, today.  Stop smoking.

Everyone in the United States has free access to telephonic counseling for quitting tobacco at Quitline (800) QUIT NOW.  You may want to look at our giving up smoking information at http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/wellness/smoking/index.aspx for ways to help you quit smoking.  Also check with your doctor for other quit smoking resources in your area.
