This is a followup to Restrictive Respiratory Disease? I went to the pulmonologist yesterday and he said that on my x-rays my lungs appeared to black. He is putting me back on prednisone and wants to redo the PFT. He said that hopefully the steroid will clear out some of the wheezing in my lungs. But this is exactly what I took before the last test. I have to wait another month to take this test and it seems like a waste doing the same again. Any ideas?

Thanks

Usually lungs that are too black on a chest x-ray are seen with emphysema or hyperinflation.  Neither of these problems would be seen with a normal diffusion capacity or restrictive lung disease.  Your test results are contradictory or difficult to interpret.  I agree with the lung doctor who wants to repeat the pulmonary function tests (PFTs).  This may provide the clarification needed to determine what is causing your symptoms.
