.History:
Breast Cx -wide excision 95'
8 wks radiation followed
I have quit smoking many times (long time smoker) since then.
If I would even smoke 1 cigarette now, I have pain all day. Could radiation have damaged lung tissue? New cancer? No excess mucus, either
No shortness of breath or pain on inspiration.

Thank you (53yr old female)

ptahitiThe pain probably relates to the depth of your breathing, when smoking. This causes stretching of the chest wall, including scar tissue and this is probably responsible for your pain.

Radiation can damage lung tissue. It can result in pulmonary fibrosis or scarring, but almost never, pain. Please check with your oncologist to see if this is due to cancer.
