costochondritis?

by javens, Sep 23, 2002 12:00AM
Hi, I wrote a couple of days ago about costochondritis and many other symptoms. I looked into polychondritis, but I do not have any swelling or redness. and my ears, nose etc... are not involved. Also my Dr gave me a sed rate analysis(to check for inflamation) and it showed was low. Can costochondritis cause anterior pain throughout the ribcage as well as along the sternum? Also is this common in fibromyalgia?

thanks!

You can have polychondritis, without the classic involvement of ears, nose etc.  But, this is a rare condition and not likely to be your diagnosis.  It’s just a thought.

Yes, the pain of costochondritis can radiate beyond the sternum.  I believe that costochondritis and fibromyalgia are unrelated conditions.  Let's follow-up on what the rheumatologist says.
