What is the relationship between COPD and laryngeal disfunction?

Specifically I would like to know, what is the relationship of the failure of vocal cords, to completely approximate and this relationship to COPD? What effect does cronic aspiration have on COPD or other aspects of lung function?

With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) there is chronic inflammation of the airways.  When the vocal cords fail to completely approximate or close, chronic aspiration may occur.  Food or fluid that is being swallowed may get into the airways.  If reflux is a problem, the gastric acid may get into the airways.  All of these things could worsen the inflammation and, hence, worsen the COPD.
