Anesthia

by statuesque, May 08, 2003 12:00AM
I had surgery last week. I had a tonsilectomy, glossectomy, UUPP, and SMR Turbinates. I was told by my nurse that I did not wake right up after surgery and that they had to give me something to wake me up. I have sleep apnea however I suspect too much anesthia..because I have had general anesthia at least 7 times in the past with undiagnosed sleep apnea and always woke right up afterwards, with no groogy feeling at all. This time I remember waking up and asking the nurse if I was awake. I ended up in cardiac care unit!

It's been one week now and I still don't feel quite the same. Does anyone know about the after effects of too much anesthia?

One can feel groggy for quite some time after anesthesia.  This can happen with too much anesthesia as well as just the right amount of anesthesia.  It really depends on the anesthetics used.

The good news is that, while it may take a while yet for you to feel entirely back to normal, there are no long lasting after effects from general anesthesia.

Just needed to add that I have been on oxygen 24/7 since I came home.
