Crotchety sensations - itch, burn, etc

by Schmulig, Oct 31, 2004 12:00AM
Maybe a similar question to others, but not quite. For the past ten days to two weeks, I've had itching and tingling sensations around the scrotum and penis. One has been an itch or pinprick sensation in the lower right scrotum. There has also been itching generally around the scrotum and penis. Occassionally I have slight urethral itch toward the tip of the shaft, no burning urination. A few times very slight testicle pain or "heaviness" on one side. No consistent pattern in time of day. No visible symptoms, ie discharge or anything like herpes, warts, any lesion at all. No fever, and no noticeable level of fatigue. I should add that I've had persistent constipation and, before self-treatment, aggravating hemorrhoids.

Background: 3-4 weeks ago unprotected intercourse (oral & vaginal) with ex-partner. A week before that, fully protected (except oral-balls) intercourse with high-risk partner.

Hydrocortisone gives some relief, and I drink a lot of fluid, so high pee frequency no surprise. I also shaved my scrotum a while back, and wonder if the itch is just from that.

I'm feeling somewhat psychsomatic about some of this, it is constantly in my mind, and maybe I am exaggerating the sensations. Have also been repressing a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety over other personal issues.

From what I can discern, symptoms fall under chlamydia, prostatitis, urethritis, or epididymitis. The short answer, I know, is to get tested. I don't have insurance and I really want to put this behind me, so the question is: Tested for what?

Many thanks for your help and advice.

As you imply yourself, I think your symptoms do not reflect an STD.  I don't like the term "psychosomatic", but it is true that minor minor symptoms can be magnified when anxiety and fear are involved.  In any case, your symptoms don't sound like any STD, including the problems you mention.  (By the way, prostatitis isn't an STD.)

But if you want reassurance, see a health care provider and ask for a urine test for chlamydia and gonorrhea.  If those are negative, relax and forget it.
