Think white discharge for my wife....

Dear sir,

My wife is facing white discharge problem after her first delivery. She faced with accidental aborsion on her second preganancy. After which the white discharge is stopped for few months. And she face the white discharge as soon as we started having sex. After her third preganancy the white discharge is stopped for few months until we started having sex. Now she started facing white discharge. Both of them never had sex with others. So, both of them never faced any STD. Does this is symptoms of any major problem ?. We had consulted many doctors in our country but still the problem is not solved. She is just 24 yrs old and myself is 28yrs old. Whenever we have sex she feels painful. She had urinary infection at the time of her first preganancy which is being treated.

The 3 most common causes of vaginal discharge are yeast infection (not sexually transmitted), trichomonas (an STD), and bacterial vaginosis (associated with sex but probably not an STD in the usual sense).  Classic other STDs, especially gonorrhea or chlamydia, are possible.  But there are numerous other possibilities, however.  Whether pain during sex is part of the same problem or due to something else is impossible for me to judge without more information.

Beyond that, I really can't speculate.  I don't know what country you are in, but diagnosing your wife doesn't sound like a difficult challenge.  Knowing more about STD risks--i.e., whether either you or your wife has other sex partners--is important.  (If you are in a country where the culture makes it difficult to discuss sex, it is especially important that your wife's doctors have such information; it will make a difference in what tests they do to make a diagnosis.)

Please read the pertinent articles (gonorrhea, chlamydia, vaginal infections) under the link STD Quick Facts and Articles at the top of this forum; and also consider other internet research about vaginal discharge.  For example visit the American Social Health Association site (www.ashastd.org).  You may get clues that you can take back to your wife's doctors about proper diagnosis.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
