Could I Have Genital Herpes

by tyson00, Sep 21, 2005 12:00AM
Had unprotected sex about 6 weeks ago and for the past 2 weeks I've been having sharp pains in my penis, testicles, and lower abdomen.  No visual signs on my penis or other spots except for a little dry skin on my penis. Sometimes the tip of my penis burns and it feels like there is discharge but have never seen anything.

Saw my family doctor 7 days ago and he gave me a shot (not sure what it was) and prescribed Zmax (2 grams) for the possibility of Chlaymdia or Gonorrhea. He only tested me for a bladder infection (urine sample).  No Improvement after the Zmax.

About 2 years ago I had pains in my testicles and a ultrasound showed a swolen vein.  Could this lead to pains in my penis?

I see where genital herpes signs may not be visual and can be in the urethra.  Should I go to a clinic and get a swab??  Could I still have Chlaymdia or Gonorrhea and the Zmax didnt work?  Will a swab of the inside of the penis show Genital Herpes???

Your symptoms do not suggest genital herpes or any STD.  The shot probably was ceftriaxone, a gonorrhea treatment; the azithromycin ("Zmax") covered chlamydia, and a negative urine sample is pretty good evidence against other STDs.

A culture ("swab test") for herpes won't help.  If you want to follow up on that possibility, you need a blood test.  But if it is positive, there will be no way to know whether you caught it during the exposure you describe or at another time.

I don't suggest you do anything except sit tight; the symptoms will clear up over time.  They may be due more to anxiety than anything else.  If they continue, check again with your family doctor.

Hi,

My boyfriend and I have been sexualy active with each other for about 3 months, we have always used a condom but it has come off once during intercourse because we had gotten really into it and it got a little rough, and a few days ago (the day after we had sex) I noticed a small red bump just inside my vagina. It felt like one of those in-grown pimples and so thats what I thought it was at first. Then I got worried that it might be genital herpes. However I don't have any other symptoms. I don't have a fever, discharge, muscle pain, itching, burning, and it's just one bump. I have not gone to check it out yet with a doctor but I plan to very soon.

If you could help that would be great!

Thank You for your time.
