strange rash and discharge

Hello,

About two months ago, I had unprotected sex with a friend of mine. (I know this was very stupid.)  It was very quick, and he didn't ejaculate.  He has recently been tested and says that he is not infected.  However, I've recently started having an odd vaginal discharge.  There isn't an odor, but it is staining my underwear a bluish color.  I also have a rash on my inner thigh. My rash doesn't itch, but it does burn.  I thought it might be caused by my increased discharge and that the wetness was irritating my skin. I've looked up different STDs online, and my rash doesn't appear to look like any of them.  I have a doctor's appointment for tomorrow, but I'm still really concerned.  Do you have any idea what this might be?

Any new vaginal discharge is cause to be examined, which you are planning to do.  The "bluish color" is peculiar--it doesn't suggest anything in particular.  (Unless maybe something left behind in your vagina? A colored condom?)  But onset of any new discharge after a new sexual partnership is a good bet for almost any STD, especially gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas, bacterial vaginosis; herpes and syphilis are much less likely.  The reliability of your partner's statement of negative tests depends on what tests were done and when.  On the other hand, there are plenty of causes for discharge other than STDs, so the timing may just be coincidental.  Your guess about wetness and your thigh rash makes sense, but that's only a guess.

Bottom line (no pun intended):  Follow through on plans to see your health care proivder.  As long as you are diagnosed promptly, the chance of a serious outcome is low.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
