Regarding Treament for yeast/chlamydia

Hello Dr. HHH,
Last Tuesday I was examed at my student health clinic because I had suffered from extreme discomfort for three months. I had persistant itch, irritation, redness, swelling, and overall discomfort in my vagina. The nurse conducted a pap smear and screened for BV, yeast, gonorrhea,HPV, and chlamydia. The process was uncomfortable and the nurse did notice the swelling, redness, and small cuts on the vagina. She assured me that it was not herpes because those sores would have healed and symptoms never persist for three months. She also said my cervix looked pretty good. I tested negative for BV, but she did see yeast and white blood cells on her slide; which was under the microscope. I was given a z-pack for potential STD's and a diflucan pill to treat the yeast. My concern is what it okay to accept treatment, not knowing the results of the pap smear?
Are white bloods cells more consistente with a yeast infection or chlamydia? I ask because I was told most women do not have symptoms for chlamydia. Also, I decided to start the gardisil series, the HPV vaccine. Would this be a worthy investment, many politicians are against it in the red state of colorado.

No online provider can add anything to personal assessment by a health professional, especially when that person is as competent as yours seems to have been. Sounds like a classical yeast infection, nothing more; WBC are normal in yeast infection. I'm not sure you needed the azithromycin (Z-pack), however. The pap smear results will make no difference.
Good for you for starting the HPV vaccine (Gardasil). But I'm skeptical about your statement about politicians in Colorado, regardless of how red the state may be. Most of the controversy about the HPV vaccine concerns whether to require it for school attendance. Even the most conservative religious organizations have come out in favor of immunizing young women, including girls age 9-15 (before they become sexually active), as long as it's not a school requirement. Most likely (I hope!) just a few politicians, not "many", have had publicity but do not represent the mainstream view.
