CVA Stroke Large Brain Stem Infartion

by lizzie22, Nov 15, 2004 12:00AM
My Mother-in-law was just diagnosed after surgery (gall bladder removal, colon cancer removal, intestine adhesion removal, etc.) as having had a CVA stroke with large brain stem infartion. I don't even know the terms that follow, but we're told beacuse of these blockages, she is inoperable at this point 1) one vertebral artery hypoplastic 2) one vertebral artery occluded and 3) no blood flow in basilar artery. My question - is there anything we can do at this point, or is surgery truly not an option?

My in-laws have had very mediocre care and have been "sent home with an aspirin" one too many times. Now, having moved her to a major healthcare facility in a much larger city, hearing the words, "there is nothing more we can do" we just have to ask for a second opinion.
