Rehabilitation and future

by DWright328, Jan 01, 2005 12:00AM
My mom has just suffered her 3rd stroke all in the left cerebral hemisphere. The fist two she had minimal deficits from and only had to have 2 weeks of rehab with no lasting affects. She was taken to the ER within 30 minutes of the onset but is not a canidate for TPA so nothing was really done. She appears to have right side paralysis and is having swalllowing issues as well as as aphasiaIt has been 4 weeks since the stroke and the first 2 were spent in the hospital ans a PEG tube was inserted. She is now in a Nursing home/Rehab. They are getting no return in the leg or the arm (right side) and both appear to be totally flacid. She is doing a little vetter although they have not yet repeted her swallowing study. She currently lives outside of Nashville in TN. I am graduating in may with my RN in Florida. I am wondering if you think it would be advantageous to move her to a facility in FL? Is there more available here or does it really not matter. I seem to be able to get her to respond to me well (I spent 3 weeks with her recently). Looking for anseers...she just turned 76 but is quite spunky:) THanks.

Diane
