Are there doctors who speciliaze in CVA stroke patients?

by caregiver I, Apr 19, 2006 12:00AM
My mother (soon to be 72) had a CVA stroke (left - brain)on 4/1/05. She was not taken to the hospital within the 3 hr. window as a result she has lost total use of her left side (unable to walk or stand and no use of left arm). She spent 6 mos. in rehab but there was minimual progress. Is there a doctor who specializes in this type of patient other that her primary doctor who she sees reguarly.  We seem to be at a stand still as far as her progress. She sees a PT and OT once a month (due to insurance restrictions) Are there any other tyopes of doctors we can see who specialize in stroke patients. Her memory or speech were not affected much and she still has a strong will to regain movement.
