Time factor in starting physical rehabilitation for a stroke victim

by Lihuelady, Sep 22, 2006 12:00AM
My 54 year old husband suffered 2 strokes on 9/16/06.  His definative symptom was paralysis of the right arm.  He has been sent home as of 9/20/06.  There is no physical therapy available for 2 1/2 weeks.  Isn't sooner intervention better?  Where can I get exercise diagrams for home therapy?

Hi:

I found that the hospital therepists, when asked, or the clinic you are set to attend are just presented with your situation...Will give simple tasks for him to exercise his affected part...It could be something as easy as squeezing a therepy ball...I know everything is almost tailored for the part of the brain and limb affected, but I was on the stroke unit and seen many similar exercises for all.....Can't hurt to ask....If you can, go in person....Why?  It is harder to ignore someone asking for help in person, and you can see it demonstrated..Good Luck Caregiver !!!

Since the idea of home therapy seems to appeal to you, check out www.brainstrokes.com

My husband is following this home program and we are pleased with it.
