Unidentified Foot Malformation

I suffer from a condition that causes my feet to twist over onto the outside edge and inwards too. The toes are clawed and do not touch the floor unless I extend them. I had surgery on the left foot (the worst) some years ago to correct the malformation but the symptoms returned in less than 3 years and are now progressing to the same state prior to surgery.

My doctor then explored Spina Bifida as a cause but following surgery on my spine the same symptoms continue. I am now wearing orthopaedic appliances on both feet.
I am 45 years old and was born with apparently normal looking feet. A "club foot" appearance was not evident until I was about 5 years old.

I also suffer from Mytonia Congenita (Thompson-Becker's Disease) but this has been ruled out as a contributory factor.

Despite over 40 years of medical investigation I am no nearer to understanding what might cause this condition, nor what procedures might help alleviate it. Has anyone ever heard of anything like it?

Thank you for your swift response. I have looked at Charcot-Marie Tooth disease and the stmptoms described match mine so closely that I am going to contact my neurologist (who deals with the mytonia) to see about being tested for it.
It seems strange that after going nearly 40 years without a "formal" diagnosis I should have come one step closer through spending 5 minutes on the internet; especially as I have been examined by British doctors for most of my life!

Check out Charcot-Marie Tooth disease.  Sounds odd to think of the foot being related to something with "tooth" in the name, but this is a progressive neural atrophy of the muscles supplied by the peroneal nerves that can affect the muscles of the foot where one set of muscles are stronger than the other causing a club foot look.  Clawed toes is a side effect of this disease.  Nerves are not affected and it is diagnosed by an orthopedist, not a "foot" doctor.
