I have been spitting blood (both darker/lighter) - usually in the morning but sometimes during the night and day. This has been happening for about 5 months now and none of the Doctors can figure out what it is or are too concerned - they attribute it to either sinus problems or dry mouth/irritation.
I have been to my family practice physician, an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist, an Urgent Care Physician, and an Allergist. I've also been to a Dentist and an Endodontist.
The tests I have had done: complete blood count, chest x-ray, 2 endoscopes, sinus CT scan, and MRI with dye (head to lung apices looking for soft tissue tumors). The dentist also checked for abnormalities. All of these tests came back normal. The Urgent Care Doctor said he could see blood in the back of my nose.
I do suffer from occasional sinus infections and morning stuffiness. Several times when I have had the blood - my 2 y/o son has had blood in his nose - don't know if this is related to environmental allergies?
I am an active and healthy 43 y/o ex smoker (quit 2 1/2 years ago and smoked 15 years of not quite 1 pack a day).
My questions is - should I still be concerned because this is an ongoing problem or should I agree with the doctors that this is a dryness/irritation problem - which they said can happen - or do you suggest additional testing? The Doctors have said there is really no other testing w/o other symptoms. Saline is suggested but doesn't really work. They tried to give me depression pills because I worry about this. But I'm very scared still when it happens.
