Pain and swelling internally behing left eye.

Rcently I went to the eye doctor for sight problems, a week later I got a call from him saying that I have some swelling behind my left eye. It is causing extreme migrains, loss of vision, throbbing pain throughout the whole left side of my head and face. I went to the doctor they were supposed to send me to a specialist, however I don't have the best insurance so it's taking forever, in the meantime my problems get worse everyday. Do you know what the exact diagnosis might be?

it could be as simple as a cluster migraine; the pain is usually behind one eye, with swelling, vision changes, and watery eye/ runny nose

Yes, I have major throbbing to my upper left side teeth. Not to mention that every once in a while my left side goes numb.
Thanks for the info I have an appointment on Monday hopefully
things will be taken care of.

Doctor is probably sending you to a neuro ophthalmologist for a consult.

Glad to read you have appt so soon. Is appt w/ specialist or at
the lab for scan? I'm pretty familiar w/ nerves/tissue/area/
etc. you mentioned. My guess is you have sinus infection but
you didn't mention a sinus or ear pain so for now, something
is involving the triangle plexus that goes from temple to eye &
cheek bone to nose & dwn to below maxillary then back to ear
area. The aching teeth are from the Maxilla nerve just above
your teeth & is usually a tip off to get busy asap or get ready
for more pain/problems. I'd like to know what they found so stay
in touch? Sign a release to get copy of report once doc reads
& evaluates. What you described can be simple or complexed.
Hopefully it'll be just some pills & fol-up. The thing I spoke
of abt the 'behind ear' was just a brain-wander on my part. It
matches all your symptoms & I was helping someone else similar.
Glad that isn't happening. Wish you luck. Glad to hear abt a
doc that jumps in quick to help.

To save time, ask your reg-Dr. to see if he'll order a Coronal-
Cat Scan. I'm guessing that the referral is to Otolaryngologist
(ENT-specialist) or a Neurologist. The 1st would be my choice
since it's behind the ear & most likely has bone infection. The
eye doc noticed the swelling of the optic disk relating to
nerves or infection causing compression. If you have pain behind
the ear, may be mastoiditis that can be serious. Any temple pain
or upper teeth hurting? It really sounds like infection that
may be traveling & the scan can tell if it's perhaps a benign
cyst/tumor/infection. Waiting on Ins. isn't the best choice.
Sounds like a scan & antibiotics need to done asap. Hope I'm
wrong but the delay could have a bad outcome. You may even have
a severe maxillary sinus infection. That's one of the sinuses that can easily spread to the others. Many times this starts
from simple ear problem into Otitis Media. If bone is red/sore
behind ear, get busy & call for scan to see what's going on.
Call eye doc & ask if he saw any type of growth. The scan results will get you a faster appt & you can take films w/ you
to save time. Let us know how you're doing. Gd-luck.
