Swollen ankle

My Mom is 84 years old. She has high blood pressure but her readings have been very good lately. She has swelling in her right ankle when she sits for more than two hours usually occurs during hot weather. She had an echocardiogram last week and her heart is fine, she also takes blood thinning medication. The swelling comes and goes and usually occurs after she has been sitting Is this something to be concerned about?

This is a very common problem. Sitting with feet elevated, like on a recliner helps. While sitting feet excercises like rotating them together clockwise and anticlockwise and streching feet back and forth is good. Getting up every hour to strech legs should also be done.
